I think swatwork's visual concept was spot on. The beauty of the interface is that it strikes a great balance between simple, simple, simple, but with the ability to go deep if you want to or need to.

Here is where energy-xt v1 feel flat. Totally open modular design that (A) people couldn;t wrap their head around, --or-- (b) the people who could would wind up with flows that were very messy and complex.

Tracktion got it better - it's a flow, but ALWAYS left to right - this is EASY for people to get and it's the primary interface paradigm, tied inexorably to tracks.

If, as Jo has chosen, parts and racks are not married to their tracks, then the Tracktion approach falls short. Translation : everything flow-wise revolves around racks. So racks should reflect the same paradigm as clips and windows : TAB key takes you deeper. Swatwork's idea of the rack changing to a shortcut button for those rare instances where 5 or 6 plugs in a linear flow aren't enough truly solves the conceptual problem for the user IMHO.

Mmm, good thing to bring this up again Dave!
