This guy claims that he paid $600 for the EG....I think he lost his
mind before the accident.

Anybody got Kable(the midi parameter program from this year's Developer Challenge)to work with an EZ guitar?

I haven't really tried, I can easily route all strings down onto channel 1, but I can't filter out low velocity notes, and sometimes the notes you do play stay on forever.

Does anyone here know if the two knobs (volume and tempo?) on the ez-eg can send midi?

Anybody know of any alternative sources for the units other than eBay ($300+ used) and Craig's list (which is useless here in the country)? For some weird reason, many music stores list them as coming back in stock in March (?) whereas Yamaha themselves lists them as discontinued in the US market. This is one mysterious product.

Those are your two options I'm afraid. Those or try trawling around every music store you can on the incredible offchance there would be one!

I emailed Yamaha recently about the ez-eg and they said that it is discontinued - I didn't ask about the ez-ag but as you have found, some stores are pre-ordering for march.

I'm currently awaiting my EZ-AG from eBay! Can't wait...

Are you the guy who just bought one for $271? It's highway robbery. Can't figure out why all these stores have them listed as coming back in stock across the next 3 months. One store postulated that Yamaha was bringing a new, updated version at Winter NAMM and that's what was shipping this Spring. That's why the current sku is listed as "discontinued"--it is. Wouldn't it be cool if they just stripped out all the silly kiddy crap and just made it a pure midi controller?

It was around that price yeah, but I am getting it in the UK. Cheaper than the cheapest Ztar by a long shot!

Uh....YEAH!! :D And it would be cooler still if they added some pro
features.

Hi everyone,

I ended up buying an EZ-AG as a direct result of spending a couple of days of my life reading this amazing thread and I just wanted to give a quick thanks to you all for that! I can't believe I'd never heard of it before coming here a few months ago.

Anyway, I'm writing this now to see if anyone would be interested in helping me beta-test a game I am making which will be specifically designed for this guitar. It is my final year University project and the concept will be similar to Brain Age/Training style, where you are encouraged to play loads of mini games for 15-30 minutes a day rather than have one long session (much like guitar lessons). At the moment I've got a few prototypes on the way but any useful feedback would be brilliant.. especially if it helps me scrape some good marks!. The game will mainly be focussed on bringing newbies into playing guitar, maybe swaying them from guitar hero and the like, but if you are a more experienced player it will quickly realise this and raise the difficulty levels etc.

Oh, and Happy New Year!

An Ez-AG game? Sure sounds interesting.

Great! I'll have more details and some stuff to look at in the next few days. Quick question, did anyone ever manage to find a way to send the sysex messages to the eg/ag for lighting the frets?

Im bidding on an ez-eg from japan now. £130 so far.

How is this thing for left handed people btw? As a midi controller id imagine it doesnt matter, but for the built in guitar school thingy perhaps?

Theres two rotary knobs on it, in the manual they are explained as on/of switch and volume. Has anyone figured out if the volume knob can send midi?
The pitch arm should perhaps also send midi. So that should perhaps give you 2 modulation sources..

Fret lighting via sysex is in the MIDI implementation chart. If you got your unit 2nd-hand and don't have a manual, say so and someone will dig it up for you!

I'm also interested in what you come up with. Perhaps it will be reason enough to blow the dust off the old EG after 2 years or so! :P

The knobs do not send MIDI.

Pitch arm sends Pitch Wheel messages (14-bit), but its sort of "stepped" so it doesn't give you full continuous values, unfortunately!

You could, however, treat these messages as two different mod sources, mapping the down messages versus the up messages. (See the MFX PW Map plugin at my site by way of example)
