hilarious, I actually got the HD 280's.
too many reasons........price being one.

Actually, at a relatively low volume, I find the 280's are quite good for mixing.
I like the somewhat hyped bass sound, as it sorta forces me to ease back on the bottom end a little.
I find myself switching between the HD600s and the 280s for that reason. (the 600s seem a bit bass-shy at lower volumes).
Both are super comfortable though.

Exactly! I use the HD-280 Pro for the same reason. But after wearing them for a while, I'm highly appreciative of my Sony 7506's.advaya wrote:

I wish I could have tried some other types, but they are not available to listen to and considering how different they are, I can't stand the idea of buying, returning, buying, etc.

Ultrasone Proline 2500s here. I use them, and I can get decent accuracy with regards to bass output on these headphones. The bass is the best part of them. The highs can be harsh on some poor recordings, but on great recordings the highs are just beautiful. The midrange is pretty flat, boring, sterile, but pretty accurate.
The most obvious benefit apart from the jaw slacking bass response is the stereo imaging on these headphones. I use them with HDPHX (the latest version downloaded from Audiometrics) and the sound I get is eerily similar to that of sitting in front of a Blue Sky ProDesk 2.1 system that I auditioned a year or so ago.
I could mix electronica on these headphones and not be that far off getting a decent mix. As always, I refer to my nearfields which are integrated with a decent sub for something that I can truly rely on.
But for a portable solution for the nomads, these are genuinely useful and produce serious bass, not overly bloated (too boomy) or wimpy (too little) bass you get from most headphones. I've tried hi-end Stax, Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser, Equation, Audio Technica, each of these headphones I returned for some reason or another (usually some sort of deficiency in the stereo imaging or bass) and I liked these the best out of all of those. Those second in line would have been the Stax, the highs on the Stax were just divine, but alas where's the f#$%ing bass!?
