Well, don't forget, they are basically doing three things:

- Developing an inhouse core-engine that will cater for their future needs (obviously this started with RMX, but they need a more traditional multi-sampled rompler engine)

- Developing the two instruments themselves based on the new core engine (what features each has optimised to it's use)

- Developing extra sound content for the two new instruments, and repurposing existing content into the new instrument format

That there is enough to keep them busy for quite some time, and that's without factoring additional instruments, content, and expansions into the equations. I have no doubt that other instruments are in the pipeline somewhere.

The Speccies, like GForce, take their time to do things right.

So, I *expect* the new Atmosphere and Trilogy replacements with better features and content. Anything over and above that is simply icing on the cake...

But whatever it will be, will be good 8)

Happy new year KVR! :D
zircon wrote:There is absolutely no question that they're developing a new engine of some kind, that will support Atmosphere or Trilogy in some way. However, I doubt this is STRICTLY an update to Atmo/Trilo. Keep in mind this has been in development for years! A super-powered, sample-based software workstation seems likely.
Yes maybe an all in Sampler of some sort is on it's way.

Personally I would really like this new plug or new plugs to have built in multicore support. I think Kontakt has this as well as another synth. Maybe Disco DSP.

When RMX came out it was not excessively heavy on CPU or ram but it was not exactly lite either. Hopefully any new set of plugs can take full advantage of multicore systems. Hosts already do this but it would be nice to have a Kontakt like built in mulitcore setting of some sort.
I am surprised at how many people used the "Other" voting option. Maybe Spectrasonics have decided to move into producing sound sets /libraries (their existing sound sets are excellent) and away from Romplers this time around.

I think its a totally new plug but that globe just has Atmosphere 2 all over it. :hihi:

I would love a Spectrasonics 'player' that can read all existing content from all three spectrasonics plugs but with more options to manipulate the sound and perhaps support for ACID files with a mini arranger built in like BFD2.

Well, I can venture with some degree of certainty what it won't be - Stylus RMX 3, since there hasn't been a RMX 2. :P
At any rate, it's a safe bet it won't be a new Stylus since they've already devoted a lot of time and attention there as is, and should be eager to amp up their other offerings. Which logic leads me to believe it will likely be Atmosphere/Trilogy MEGA editions. Or they could do a dedicated guitar pluggy to compliment Trilogy and call it STRATmosphere!

We'll all know soon enough :hyper:

Yes Stratmosphere is an interesting name :hihi: However I think if they go the guitar route then surely it has to be named Stratosphere especially with the picture in the ad. :)

If a recent review of Realstrat in CM Magazine (10/10 IIRC) is anything to go by then a Spectrsonics spin on that idea would be a very nice addition to Spectrasonics current offerings.

Also the Spectrasonics guys have now given us a little update...the date has slipped forward to the 17th. Awww man! :( :hihi:

...and the Computer magazine image has now been posted on the main homepage and this Spectrasonics Anticipation page.

I think until the 17th...(16th in the magazine ad) Spectrasonics Anticipation is the only new Specrasonics offering we will get. :hihi:

"Something very special will be revealed"..."Check it out" points to a single app. surely.

I thought they might bring out a new suite of products this time. I am guessing the Intel MAC issue really took a large chunk out of their development schedule. Now that it appears to be single app...I think it's defintely Atmosphere 2 or a single 'mega' Spectrasonics app that reads files from all three Spectrasonics plugs. Gulp :o

Don't you guys think it's a coincidence that they're having this big sale on all the rmx expansion packs for ridiculously cheap, ending right before this big announcement for something new? This always the way it works. Sell off the old for cheap right before the new version.

"Expanded" special: Ends Jan.12th
New product: Jan.16th

Hmmm...

I'd actually put money on it being something that can both play loops like RMX and melodic instruments, like atmosphere/trilogy.

The only reason I'm holding off with the expanded packs is because I have a funny feeling about this new thing making them seem obsolete.

Post

I don't think it's going to have anything to do with loops or RMX, unless RMX 2 is part of it. They spent so much time developing that engine that it seems strange they would create a NEW product that crosses over into it in terms of functionality...

The Xpanders technically have been around for over a decade, I believe. They're all based on older Spectra sound libraries.

Sure, but they are currently selling 5 for the price of one ($99). That's usually a sign.

And I'm not saying it won't have keyboard instruments. It'll probably have it all. Like Kontakt 3 but with all the spectrasonics goodies.

Post

Well, I think that is probably just coincidence. Remember RMX "Xpanded" came out at least a month ago, and that's a deal that is never going away - it's a new product launch entirely. The 5 expanders for $99 was a temporary deal for those who already had RMX. I don't think they would create a new RMX bundle only to release RMX 2 or some other kind of thing that trumps the original less than 2 months later.

According to someone at gearslutz its a synth, seems with the tag line about taking a life time to explore it could be?

It has got to be something completely new. They can't keep saying it's going to be big etc .etc. and hyping it up, then it turns out to be just RMX 2 or Atmosphere 2 etc.

I would say forget Atmosphere, RMX & Trilogy. As to what it is, I've got no idea, but I think it might be something that will appeal to the film community.

I won't even try to predict what the Spectrasonics team have ginned up. The only reason I voted "Atmosphere 2" is that the teaser ad uses the Atmosphere color scheme. I don't think that was done randomly.

I won't get on the hype machine, though. I want to see the product. Until then, it's vaporware.

It does look as if they may very well be releasing a new version of RMX or a 3 in one App of sorts. It certainly appears to be one app. I also have held off buying RMX expanded partly for the same reason as you, but even more so because I already have the superb Retro Grooves and Metamorphosis expanders. Top class.

If I buy RMX expanded it will cost me about £75(inlcluding shipping) If I buy Liquid grooves (the only other expander I would be interested in after hearing all the demo tracks for all the exapnders) I can get it over here in Europe for £40-£50. It does mean I can get Back beat and Burning grooves for about £12.50 or a little bit more each if you look at the RMX expander deal another way, but I have no real interest in Backbeat or Burning Grooves and even Liquid Grooves would be a "nice to have" not a "need to have".

An 'all in' Spectrasonics plug that plays loops/grooves and samples from all three plugs would definitely be something I would consider buying.
Definitely.
Broken wrote:EP has almost admitted as much when discussing the wrapper that was released.....that doesn't mean they might not have something new as well but definately some form of atmos and trilogy update will be released.
I guess the big question is what that "some form of update" is. It appears to be a single app "something very special will be revealed". "Something" and "Check it out" suggests if Trilogy and Atmosphere get updated it may be linked to this new plug in some way

I personally think it is likely to be totally new as well. Of course Atmosphere 2 would still of great interest but it looks like there is something more going on here. I hope :D

A Zebra, Z3ta+ e.t.c rival would be somewhat unexpected IMO but very welcome it would likely have a smaller hard drive footprint (less of an issue these days with bigger drives I guess) but then again more recent samplers / drum plugs have 30 - 50 GB libraries. Do you have a link to that thread Johnny?

Post

I think it will be a rompler. with synthesis. something in the same style as dimension pro. with layering etc...and with spectrasonic samples. in other words.....it will be THE rompler. a modern age roland jv1080 or something...
