I visited the booth about four times during the show and only had a chance to talk to Farhan and Rick once. The booth was very busy and the Muse people had their hands full with propective customers. I talked to some of the people who visited the booth and they were blown away with the new things Muse was demoing. I think the Receptor is finally coming of age and it is getting its due respect as the ultimate synth.

Unfortunately, Muse was not demoing V2.0 at namm... certainly not to me anyway. But, they said they are working diligently on it and expect to have it out as soon as it is perfect. They did not say when, but I think it should be ready in the next two or three months. They did say it will most likely do what we all expect it will do... certainly as far as a more advanced progam/single/multi change interface goes.

I did see a glimpse of the new installer and it seems to work as if you were installing something on a PC or MAC. This is pretty cool and will make everyones life a little easier. It's kind of like a wizard that walks us dummies through the steps of installing plugins.

I did see some demoes of some Arturia and Way-Out-Ware synths and other cool synths that they had working. I would expect Muse to announce these in the very near future.

I did get a chance to talk to Eric Pershing after I watched him demo Omnisphere. This is a too die for synth. He said Omnisphere should easily work on Receptor. The bad news is that it won't be ready until September 15, 2008! It took my breath away. They even sampled light bulbs... yes light bulbs.

Applied Acoustic Systems was demoing there Guitar Synth. It is almost a clone of Real Guitar. They say it will be out shortly and they say it should work on Receptor as well. One of the features was... when you play a chord on the keyboard the plugin will revoice the chord as a guitar voicing. This was very cool as they demoed it to me. Using velocity sensing this allowed the strings to be struck up or down... again very cool.

Native Instruments was demoing some new plugins, but nothing really blew my socks off. Addictive Drums has come out with a cool expension pack, which I purchased at the show and will give it a try when I receive it in the mail and then report to the group.

I don't go to namm, but I do visit the N.I. site. I think the KORE players are pretty cool in concept. I'm not sure the current ones are that great, but the potential kore has for people with ueber computers is pretty extensive.

They have the best of Absynth, Massive, Reaktor, then it looks like they have hybrid ones with things like brass or band, orchestral etc.

In the future I hope to see KORE players with alot more integration of all of the elements of komplete. If they offer special genres of music styles with crosses of multiple instruments from complete, they can do some special things. The Kore players seem to use the Kore format with their own "engine" or probably grouping of synths from komplete in a special pack to cut down on CPU usage probably, I'm just guessing.

The more I use komplete and kore, the easier projects become, so if N.I. say, comes out with something like "synthetic orchestra" using FM-8, the Kontakt VSL library and pro-53, they could do some awsome things with a kore player with low cpu usage. Just a guess and an idea.

So no, at the moment I don't think any of those packs would blow my socks off, but I think it has potential, if they use multiple engines for unique packs. It's more of a conglomeration of engines, presets, etc. to get packs of sound instead of god awfull huge sample libraries, maybe N.I. will finally stumble into some kind of decent physical modeling other than "TUBE/PIPE" sounds. Reaktor and Absynth together in a kore pack, man if you can't get good physical modeling out of those two, then, they need to hire some new sound designers.

Anyway, I like the idea, as long as they can combine multiple engines in a player.

EastWest does the sme thing with their new Play engine. It's bascially Kore for EastWest compliant libraries and makes multi-patches appear seamless.
