Has any body figured out how record midi notes while getting artillery to effect the incoming audio in logic? I Know its a stupid question but I cant seem to figure it out.

I can effect audio while inserted as an effect with the mouse but, that is while on a audio track, and you cant record midi on a audio track.

I can get it to react to incoming midi data when I open it as a midi controlled effect but then I can have any audio playing cause it then fill the instrument Input.

Thanks

Hi, Artillery should be used as midi controlled effect.

Then use the sidechain menu to route audio to it.

You can find this explained with screenshots in the Artillery2 Quick Start manual. The manual can be started from the Artillery2 about screen (click on the Artillery 2 name in the plugin), and can be found in the Artillery2 program folder.

all the best

also you could use it as a midi controlled effect, and then route the audio from your softsynth channel to the midi controlled effect channel rather than to the output...

Either way you need either an instrument track with your synth and artillery AND a midi track that is routed to artillery, or you need a midi controlled effect track and an instrument track... It's a two track process so you can have different midi for the instrument and the effect...

Thanks so much guys now I can start doing some real experimenting!

I just tried running Artillery as a midi controlled effect and routed a midi track to it via sidechain panel and I am getting no sound for some reason, do you guys know why this would be.
I have battery 3 looping a midi sequence and all is sidechained like in the manual an the plug is responding to my keyboard and I can even see the arillery track getting input in the level meter and still no sound, seems like I have something deactivated somewhere.

that sounds strange.
you see a signal in the bottom right levelmeter ?
you don't see a message indicating demotime out or wrong serial number ?
do you see a level in the artillery instrumenttrack in the logic mixer ?

please press the '!' button on the top to turn off all effects. do the sound comes through now ? maybe you have activated a looper which loops silence.

It seems for some reason that my sidechaining is not working for any of my plugs, Ive tried it with the compressor and withe the noise gate and I can not get them to respond to sidechained tracks. It has worked in the past I dont know what might be wrong. :( Thanks for your help

maybe mono/stereo incompatibility ?
try switching the source track to stereo.

Nope doesnt seem to be that, the source track was already stereo.
Im gonna post this at a couple different forums and see what people think. I'll let you know if I figure it out Thanks!

Hi, apologies for butting in on this thread but I think it's a related question: can you use Artillery to effect Virtual Instrument tracks (such as exs24) in realtime? The sidechain menu only offers audio tracks, inputs & busses.

I tried routing an exs24 track (playing a drumloop) to a bus which was siedchained to Artillery. I could hear the Artillery FX working but the original sound was in the foreground, even if I set Artillery's effect(s) to 100% mix (wet).

It would be a much more spontaneous way to use Artillery like this if it were possible. Is it, please?

Thanks!!!

Yes i think this is possible.
Although i don't have my hands on logic right now to test, i guess you forgot to set the volume of the instrument track (exs) to 0 (-160db).

Hi Mr. SweetNibbles

thanks for the schnelle Antwort!!!! ;-)

just setting the Instrument Fader to 0 means no sound; BUT what works is:

1) Track Instrument Output setting: whatever you want, it's irrelevant! Obviously this track needs to have something playing on it- a drum loop, or whatever- this is what you want to hear going through Artillery
2) Insert Artillery on a Bus Insert
3) turn this Bus Send up full on the Instrument Track you want to hear "Artillerized".
4) *important*- set the Instrument track Bus Send to Pre Fade (click on the Send slot to select this). Now setting the Instrument volume to 0 will give you the pure Artillery-routed sound.
5) select the track with the Bus using Artillery in Arrange as your "MIDI THRU" (in Logic)....play some MIDI notes and away you go!!

(maybe there's a smarter way to do this.....mix freaks would know).

.....oh gosh this is fun!!!

A request for the next version: to be able to disable Tempo Sync globally or for individual effects- sometimes it's nice just to work with the sound and have it go counter to the groove....sometimes!

great stuff, Thx again!!

Hello all,

On a Macbook Pro, I have been using Artillery 2 for Pro Tools 8 via FXpansion adapter. It has worked for me very well.

Recently, I have made the switch to Logic Pro 8. I am questions now with Logic 8 Pro and Artillery 2.

I cannot figure out how to apply Artillery 2 to the master out (outputs 1-2) and control the plugin with my keyboard. I can insert Artillery 2 as an effect, but cannot create a midi track for that insert, meaning I cannot control Artillery 2 via my midi keyboard.

Secondly, I cannot figure out how to apply Artillery 2 to software instruments. Again, I am able to insert the plugin to the instrument track, but then I can't figure out how to control the plugin via a midi track. There seems to be no way of assigning a midi track to the insert. In addition, the sidechain function of Artillery 2 only shows audio tracks, inputs, and buses, but no instruments.

I can only seem to successfully midi control Artillery 2 to audio tracks via the side chain function of Artillery 2.

I am aware that the manual demonstrates "host integration" for Logic, but, it doesn't seem to convey the answer to my issues successfully.

If anybody can point me to the solution, it would be very appreciated.

Thank you,

Kevin

Hello,

there are solutions for both of your issues.

Artillery on an Instrument:

1. Create an Instrument Track and apply Artillery on it as a "midi controlled effect"

2. Send your Instrument to a Bus

3. Select the Bus in the Sidechain menu of Artillery.

Artillery on the Master:

1. Create an Instrument Track and apply Artillery on it as a "midi controlled effect"

2. Send all Tracks of your song to the same Bus.

3. Select the Bus in the Sidechain menu of Artillery.

That should do the trick,

best
Rico

kevindhalia,
You mention using Artillery 2 in Pro Tools via fxpansion. How do you go about setting it up. Is it similar to Logic setup?
