how different is MU.LAB?

For long-time (old time?) users of Muzys, how do you compare it to MU.LAB?
Muzys is still my favorite host I've used, but I don't use it anymore for a few reasons. I recently checked out mu.lab and liked what I saw. Too be honest, having gone through many of the controls/features it appears to be almost the same as Muzys. I haven't really used mu.lab yet though. I'm definitely going to give a test drive though when I have time. I always appreciated Jo's programming and support which is another positive aspect to this software.
cheers

Mmm... I was going to say "It's a lot simpler than Muzys 3.14" but... there's more to it than that!
There's no "Play Room". Neat feature for jamming with loops but not something I miss.
Compositions can only be "Song" type, not "Loop" type. Again, it was a neat feature but not one I used.
Currently, a Part's sequence's events all have the same MIDI channel (or, rather, the Part has a Channel and only that's used), although Jo may be looking at changing this.
In Muzys, each event can be assigned a Player. In MULAB, only Parts have Players. Not a big deal, really.
There aren't any MultiPlayers. This was something I used quite a bit (layering and spliting is something I think is a pretty basic feature).
There's no MIDI In Channel Routing dialog (because of the way MIDI In is currently handled). I shall keep needling Jo until something better is available
.
The built in synth component is completely different.
I've not compared the wave editors.
Muzys' fixed size synth racks and mixing desk are dead and buried, fortunately. MULAB's wonderfully flexible in this area, and very easy to use with it!

The sequencer looks and feels much like the Muzys one - radically object based down to automation which is something I love
MuSynth is different from MuZynth with a "z". Apparently there's a simple sampler on the way too!
like PLJones, I don't really miss Playroom, though I admit that it could be a showstopper for others.
As soon as the sampler thingie is integrated into MU.LAB, for me it will be everything that was great about Muzys and then some (ie modular!).

Oh yeah, I didn't actually say:
IT'S MODULAR! All of it!
(Well, nearly... Just get Jo to let those Parts float around in the MPA and add MIDI Port+Channel Inputs, too...)
I've not played with the synth, either, but you can build your own instruments and effects using modular components (and the sample player is promised, as Bonte says).

the sound of the synth is quite fat and offers a lot of fun ... very well made the whole app ... i've used CMuzys for more than 4 years now and i'm quite happy with MuTools now. The only thing i miss, is the wavelaboratory with 24 btzz instead of 16 in CMuzys.

Personally, i miss it very much!pljones wrote:There's no "Play Room". Neat feature for jamming with loops but not something I miss.
But i won't push my personall whishes too hard;
That's also why the poll will come.
Same as above, a personal 'much wanted'.Compositions can only be "Song" type, not "Loop" type. Again, it was a neat feature but not one I used.
I guess the above and this feature go very much together.
Yep. Chance is high that MU.LAB will become more flexible hereCurrently, a Part's sequence's events all have the same MIDI channel (or, rather, the Part has a Channel and only that's used), although Jo may be looking at changing this.

More info soon.
You can layer as many synths as you want: Use a MUX!!There aren't any MultiPlayers. This was something I used quite a bit (layering and spliting is something I think is a pretty basic feature).
Ok, splitting is not yet in there, but is on the whishlist.

At least it's already on the whishlist

I have also used muzys for years. I tried CMusic and Luna but had problems. MuLab (free) is excellent and easy to use (after the odd search but there is lots of help here). Thanks for this.
ps some CRYSTAL programs do not play right - i am sure this has something to do with the soundfonts?

I think this question should go to Crystal support...ps some CRYSTAL programs do not play right - i am sure this has something to do with the soundfonts?

as far as playroom, i wasnt so much using that in muzys as i was the key mapping of all the sequences, and then live performance of those sequences in time! wow, what a useful feature! and recording all of that? what an arrangers paradise! you can actually do things live instead of just hitting start haha! i havent stopped using muzys. i love it too much!
luna is modular! thats one thing i wished muzys was. but then computers werent very fast back then, as they are now. the future of mu.lab looks bright. im gonna be around, thats for sure.
