Could you please give me a step by step of the very issue you're talking about now. And eventually email me the respective musession.

I must emphasize that this test version is a non productive, temporary test version, and that sessions made with this test version are just test sessions, and chance is small that they will be loadable in the next real update.

MU.LAB version 1.1 still is the only real supported and productive version.
And so the real "productive" update (version 1.2) will normally come monday or tuesday.
Apologies, but this ETA must be prolonged.

It seems to be a slight incompatibility between the MuSession created with the "old-style" markers and the test version. Here's the step by step, with a couple of comments:

Set up:
1) Google for "12 bar blues midi"
2) Take the www.harmonicalessons.com link and download 'Slow Blues in "G"'.
3) In MULAB, start a new session, import the .mid file and OK the pop-up.
4) To tidy up, use select next composition / delete composition.
5) Instrumentation route the parts to racks with synths (none of this really matters, of course):
(Note - the first time I did this, the tracks didn't have names.)
Rhythm Guitar - MuSynth / EightySynth in Rack A
Fretless Bass - MuSynth / BoogieMoogie in Rack B
Drums on GM "Std Kit" - CM505 / Rawker1 in Rack C

Split it:
6) Split the Rhythm Guitar part at bar 7.
7) Open up the second part in the sequence editor.
8) Zoom in a bit and scroll to get bar 25 in view.
9) Right-click and set the end marker on bar 25.
-- when I tried this on my old session, the "Loop" marker was already present at bar 0. Trying from scratch, it's not present.
10) Right-click and set the <edit>Loop</edit> marker on bar 7.
11) Close the sequence editor.
12) Split the part (the second instance of Rhythm Guitar) at bar 115.
-- Okay, I guess I see what's happening; splitting the part hasn't changed what plays (i.e. bars 7 to 25 looping).
13) Set the Start to bar 115, the End to 134 and the Loop to 135 (or out of the way).

hey pljones, are you sure this description is 100% accurate?

just checking because i step 9 and 10 both affect the end marker...

i guess one of them should be about the loop marker, right? which one?

Sorry, I was rushing on that last post...

When I start from scratch using the test version and following the recipe above, there is no problem.

When I use a MuSession from the previous release version saved after step 5, I get the issue mentioned after step 9 in the recipe - the markers are in strange places. I'm assuming this is because of the change in where the information is stored between the two versions.

Initially, I also thought the issue mentioned after step 12 was a problem but I now understand the logic.

Ah, ok, i see.

Yes, some locator defaults changed between versions; the session itself (i.e. the Music :)) should play the same though.

I think this topic is done then.

The next version will have this new Part/Sequence system productively available.

But i'll be careful with the release timing because the sampler development also influences some aspects of the locator system and i want to make sure the different MU.LAB versions are as much as possible compatible with each other.

A thought struck me the other day... REX "loops" are really wave files with multiple "start" and "end" markers. I guess the correct way to import them (at the moment) would be as separate parts, pointing to a single wave sequence? And an Acidized WAV is a single Part with the "loop" point set?

("currently" as I'd expect to be able to trigger sections of the loop using a MIDI note ... mm, but then I'd expect to be able to trigger any Part using a MIDI note... ;))

Indeed, if you want to slice up an audio file with 1.1, then use a separate part per slice and set the appropriate start point.

(Where 'soon' cannot yet be more detailed, but it's developing well :))

Mmm...

So Parts get their own intrinsic length. The timeline acts as one form of trigger to a Part. Parts and the timeline can then live in the MPA, so that other things can also trigger Parts. :D
