You're referring to iTunes, right? Or some mystery app? :)

The problem with iTunes is it reminds me of the whole Mac "we know better" aspect of the OS. It makes assumptions about how people will want to use the software that aren't necessarily true. For example, it doesn't want to allow you to have different songs on a Shuffle than it has listed for the Shuffle, so it erases anything on the Shuffle that isn't listed in the software, and there's no discernible option to stop this behavior. Yes, I understand why it does this, but that's an assumption about how users want to control what is on their Shuffle. So, I use software from another company that doesn't do what I don't want it to do.

It's interesting to see that nobody is talking about sound quality...

About a month ago I helped my girlfriend's brother choose a good pair of earphones for his brand new stainless steel iTouch. It's very pretty and the interface is really cool. But the sound sucks! The same goes for the few iPods I had a chance to sample before.

The first thing that strikes me is how noisy their amps are. As soon as you plug some decent earphones you hear lots of noise. I'm not so good at describing sound quality, but I can easily hear that my old iRiver sounds 10 times better than that. So does the Samsung I gave my gf for her birthday in November (I used the same songs to compare them all).

I'm guessing that most people just don't bother buying some decent earphones. Anyhow, this is casting a doubt in my mind about all the forums I read here before if iPods are considered whorty sound devices

Was this regardless of the volume without music playing or with music playing?

Its incredible on how people NEED to post something negative about a product they don't like, on a thread that was created for the exact inverse of that. :hihi:

If you don't like iTunes, don't use it. I don't like a lot of stuff that people seem to love, and yet, I don't say anything about.

I don't like MACs that much, I'm a Windows user, but I really love how the iTunes store works. And that's what the original thread is all about.

For LISTENING, I still use Winamp, as iTunes is too big for just listening to songs.

as a power itunes user, here is he problem

to heavy on ram even doing nothing
don't correctly parse id3 tags
can't read flac/avi/mkw
mess up you library as it will
no sharing of the said library between multiple computers
need to use a bloated xml library instead of a real database (my xml file is 500MB, pretty long to load and close)
messes the artwork, can't see the artwork in a folder when importing it
doesn't write the album/artist (orchestra) field in the tag, not the compilation or gapless, pretty painfull to export songs and reiport them on the laptop

want more?

and I still use it as it's the only game in town on OsX with an ipod (and the only potent librarian, as wmp 11 is not mac, vlc is no librarian)

People NEED to post negative stuff because they seem to think standing for something means standing against something else. God needs the Devil. Superman needs Lex Luthor. Militant christian groups need the gays. And PC users need Apple. Lots of people seem to need a scapegoat to make themselves feel better. At least that's how it appears, imo. :)

Ahh, good point, yes, we all need the evil and good. Its like the Matrix movie, when the "robot" says that when they created a Matrix that was perfect, with no bad things, no evil, it failed badly. :hihi:

Ok, to be honest, I'm using my MAC as a media-center, and I just love it. BUT, I wouldn't use it for music or work, I don't like how it handles a few things. But again, I'm not loving Vista that much. So everything has its ups and downs I guess...

Not that simple. First, it is installed and loaded by most people who own some model of iPod, Shuffle or whatever because that's what these devices come with and that's how they buy and load music (or video). Second, it's not all that easy for inexperienced users to find, install and configure non-iTunes software -- assuming they even know it exists. Third, you can't shop and buy on iTunes without the software, and many do not know about alternative places to shop and buy for music, many of which are far superior to the iTunes store.

Humm, darn, you are right. But still, I don't find the iTunes software bloated at all. It runs without much problems on both machines I own. Haven't tried on my notebook yet.
