Deleting unscanned plugs?

Backspace does delete things. Try pressing it whilst typing a message
. It's used inconsistently, however: for example, to go back one page when browsing the web in some browsers. Delete - nowadays - always means Delete, wherever it has an effect. I'd stick with that rule. There are two delete keys, of course: editing key cluster and num pad. My keyboard doesn't have a num pad!

OK, I must be confused or something.....I only see one key labeled Delete on my Macs' keyboard....and it does not clear plugs out of the list. Can someone clarify what this other delete key is?pljones wrote:There are two delete keys, of course: editing key cluster and num pad.

Are you suggesting that you also want Backspace to delete things, cfr the Delete key?pljones wrote:Backspace does delete things. Try pressing it whilst typing a message. So you don't have a Delete key?My keyboard doesn't have a num pad!

I got a standard mac keyboard and it has a separate "Delete" key.Gothboy wrote:OK, I must be confused or something.....I only see one key labeled Delete on my Macs' keyboard....and it does not clear plugs out of the list. I thought this was standard for years.
Anyway, to be continued.

speaking of delete vs backspace - I'd prefer to be able to use backspace to delete parts etc. - even after more than a year with Luna/MU.LAB it still seems to take me that split-second longer to think of the "delete" key.
In a world full of backspace deleting, it's pretty idiosyncratic in my opinion, especially on a Mac.

And what about the windows version?
Shall we do the same there or not?

I totally get your point - it's a minor thing really. Maybe implement it in some kind of user definable hotkey system sometime.
That said, doesn't Windows also use backspace? I'm not sure though as I use Macs 99 per cent of the time.
It's a matter of how you're wired through years of practise I guess - the way I see it, Windows users would still expect the "backspace" key do delete something. To a Mac user however, the "delete" key is nothig but a funny button on the right, a complete blank.
So I'd say having "backspace" delete stuff would be a much smaller sacrifice for the Windows people than having the "delete" key delete stuff is for the Mac crowd, more so as MU.LAB uses the "delete" key exclusively.
But as I said, I don't think MU.LAB would suffer all that much for it.

Allright,.....let's get this figured out today. I'm using an "Apple USB keyboard" that's what it says on the bottom of it. The year on it is 1998 and it's one of those clear and teal green ones that originally came with the Imac way back when. It's NOT the keyboard that came with the G4.....those were grey in color. It has only one key labeled "Delete" located under the F12 key in the same place as a backspace key on a PC keyboard.muzycian wrote:I got a standard mac keyboard and it has a separate "Delete" key.Gothboy wrote:OK, I must be confused or something.....I only see one key labeled Delete on my Macs' keyboard....and it does not clear plugs out of the list. What is the color and date of the keyboard you have? I'm now thinking that Apple put another delete key on there in 2000. Does anyone have a link to pictures of these different keyboards?

This is the PC 102-key standard keyboard:

The "editing cluster" is between the main keyboard and the num pad. Most keyboards nowadays are variants of this.
(The ancient PC keyboard looked like this:

- you could either have a decimal point or a Del key, but you always had a backspace key.)
(Pics from http://www.barcodeman.co.uk/altek/mule/scandoc.php.)
And here's an old TTY keyboard:

Note "Insert" and "Remove" keys... but otherwise it looks like the 102 key PC keyboard.
My keyboard has the num keypad missing and the editing cluster compressed into the the right-hand edge and lower corner. It's under two octaves wide against my MIDI keyboard.

Well, looks like you're in luck then, compared to me. Your "delete" key is where my "backspace" is , so you should have fewer problems adapting (unless I got it all backwards as per usual).

Yeah, but the thing is that neither of them work to delete unscanned plugs in MuTools.

Bonte, the "Delete" key on Gothboy's keyboard IS a backspace key.
And that's why it doesn't work to delete items because MU.LAB currently only listens to the delete key, not the backspace key to delete things.
Anyway, thanks a lot for all your feedback, both from mac as pc side.
Ok, conclusion: Next MU.LABs will listen to both the backspace and delete keys
Cheers!

Though it crossed my mind ...
Great to hear it will be implemented.
I was beginning to get used to the delete thing, but it's harder than one would think.

I just replaced my older Apple usb keyboard with an Apple Pro keyboard. It's both longer, wider, has no compacted half keys and has the extra delete key so now I can delete unscanned plugs! So it's the keyboard you have that's important to do this! Just thought I'd provide a wrap-up on this issue.
