Well, I wasn't planning on arranging a symphony at work. Apparently I touched off some sensitivities and performance anxieties with NI loyalists. So I'll leave that you may continue to reassure yourselves of the greatness of Kontakt. Toodles.

Thank you for that.

I don't think it's bloated at all. And version 3 has gotten MUCH easier to use due to various changes.
I agree. I don't find it bloated, either.

It has bugs like every other software, but it's a blast to use and sounds amazing. I've never found a more useable & enjoyable sound design/sample player. Kontakt3+KORE2 is incredible. :-o (+ SONAR7 :D )

Nope, never happened here. I'm on 2.2 and I've never seen it demand that much RAM to start or crash on start for any reason.

Shortcircuit 1/2 is the most fun sampler that I've worked with. I have gigastudio 3 too. Thats a good "library-player" and gives you more polyphony than any other sampler in the market. Fact.

My XP SP2 uses well under 200 MB on start-up.I've trimmed the services and processes a bit and I've heard lots of people running stripped-down XP in under 100 MB of RAM.

As for Kontakt, it is possible to run it on 512 MB of RAM, i did it for a while before I got more RAM in this machine and had no crashes, problems, or the hard drive going nuts. I cant recall any recent situation of where Kontakt has ever wanted more than 350 or so or RAM.

I dont know where these so-called facts come from. Actual Kontakt users dont seem to have these problems.

You guys can stick to your soundfonts and shitware "samplers" and we'll keep on using properly functioning professional products. That we apparently know how to use.

So you tried a demo one time on an outdated machine with not enough RAM to do very much modern DAW work period, and those of us who use Kontakt daily and NEVER have those problems apparently don't know what we're talking about? So Windows is lying to us that Kontakt CONSISTENTLY BETWEEN USERS only takes a couple hundred MB to run?

Sorry, you're just plain wrong. One doesn't have to be an "NI fanboy" to figure that out. Whatever was wrong with your system isn't common at all. And no, I've never seen another person claim the same problem. Where are all these people you supposedly know have had the same problems? I'm sorry, but spreading false information around like that only makes you look like you don't know what you're talking about. By the way, what sampler do you choose?

Well, Kontakt offers "virtually unlimited" polyphony, the word "virtually" of course meaning as much as your machine can handle. But even still, I have never hit the polyphony, or noticed any problems. So maybe you can expand on your information. I do know that Gigastudio marketing mentioned for a while that they had more polyphony than any other sampler, but I don't believe that is true any more.

I have a blast when using Kontakt personally, but of course that's down to preference. I'm just talking pure power in this thread, and range of features. And from what I've seen, nothing compares.

Not trying to be TOO over the top here, but I do believe every word I've said, and love using Kontakt every day. Not that other samplers aren't good. They just can't do what Kontakt can! :D

Well of course, I have mine down to 16 processes on startup, but I'm saying on average, most people don't do that, and a work computer probably has more stuff on it then a usual install.

?

I used to run K2 on a 933 PIII with 512 MB of RAM- it never crashed on me.

Kontakt is the king without doubt. I have Scarbee black bass, Mixosaurus (completely amazing) and all of the Soniccouture sample sets. I love Kontakt and couldn't work without it.
Memory? Get 4GB. Kontakt 3 will have unlimited memory addressing on 64bit operating systems after this summer and now isn't limited to 1.2GB anymore. So in my view Kontakt is the way to go. RAM is cheap these days as well.
All of the major companies who are into fine sampling use kontakt. SonicCouture is coming out with full Gamelan orchestra which will be on Kontakt.
I was even wondering if Kontakt would be competitive to Omnisphere come September. I mean I can load my own samples in Kontakt obviously and layer them and mash them up. When we know more about the Steam Engine then all it takes is to write some scripts and do a Kontakt update? Maybe? But we'll see when we know more.

I could say the same to you since I'm a bass player and laugh at sampled basses.
