I could say the same to you since I'm a bass player and laugh at sampled basses.
Bass playing is among my skills too. I'd rather play it than use samples wherever possible.

For the dozens of symphonic instruments I cannot play, Kontakt is the King Of Samplers.

Attempt to change the subject to avoid pwn3ge duly noted though. :hihi:

KKeene, give your head a shake. There was an intelligent discussion about Kontakt taking place in this thread. You opted to douse it with misinformation and a truly transparent lack of knowledge on the topic.

You where corrected by several others here, yet you persisted in your negative comments and continued ignorance despite a profusion of facts presented to you.

Get help.

if he did, you're still outclassing him on that front right now.
I'd tend to agree...

And that's part of the problem. For most uses, it's too much. It's like using a sledgehammer to open a peanut. But my main complaint is that I won't buy any Kontakt-only libraries because it's a proprietory format with little or no conversion for other software samplers and for hardware samplers (that don't crash). It's just a matter of time before someone comes up with their own scripting and automation routines. It's just a matter of time before someone comes up with something better, and then what good will all your Kontakt-only libraries do you?

I remember when Gigastudio was the king of samplers until Kontakt came along. Fortunately for all, giga format was widely supported and translated, although not always perfectly. Can you imagine the nightmare that will occur when a new king sampler is crowned and all these Kontakt libraries become useless?

I have gigastudio and love it. My machine is crappy machine though and doesn't do GS3 justice. One day, I'll get a powerful machine and finally be able to use convolution and what not. You'll see...:)

Anyways, back on topic, gigastudio is still widely being used I believe, even though it doesnt have the popularity it once did.

As for polyphony, on the same machine (same specs) gigastudio 3 will outclass any sampler on the market in terms of sheer polyphony. It operates in kernel level, which no other sampler I know of does.

There's quite a few conversion programs that'll convert .nki to other formats. As for hardware samplers not crashing, I see you never owned an Ensoniq (or an EMAX II, for that matter).

So if I invest all my money into Kontakt and Kontakt-only libraries, can I then be as smug and self-righteous as other NI fanboys?

quite frankly, i doubt if you could manage to become any more smug and self-righteous than you already are.
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

clue : kontakt wont stop working just because another sampler comes out.

You act as if Kontakt won't get better along with the other samplers. Sure, other samplers will come along and get better. But Kontakt isn't exactly staying put where it's at.

Plus, when it comes to conversion, why would I WANT to convert from nki? It's the most flexible and powerful format available, and Kontakt imports literally everything, with only a few exceptions(like other formats that aren't open, which aren't very many). So what purpose would it be to NOT put my stake in Kontakt? Plus, if some new uber-sampler came out with better scripting and more features, shouldn't it import all my "useless Kontakt libraries"?

So in other words, your argument is wasted once again. It makes no sense. You continually try to come up with something to prove a point that just can't be proven. Fanboys? Arrogant? Have you LISTENED to yourself? You're intentionally trying to ruin a good thread with non-facts and lack of real information, despite being PROVEN wrong. So what is your real purpose for being here? Are you upset that YOUR sampler doesn't do scripting or something? Do tell, we'll listen. Just learn to do it respectfully.

Now as for Gigastudio, I do understand that it operates at kernel level. I do also know that the three or four times I've tried it in depth, it was the most unstable sampler I've tried. That just comes with the concept I guess. It won't be as stable on some machines. Plus, the whole GSIF thing is just a curse, and likely the reason why it STARTED to take a back seat to Kontakt. Most people just don't have compatible sound interfaces.

I'm not saying Giga is a bad sampler. It isn't. It's actually still great. But kernel level operation isn't enough to get me to choose it over Kontakt. Especially when the risk of instability is always there when you have something operate that deep, even if it is only on limited machines. And mine just happened to be one of those, as well as the other couple of machines I've tried it on. Plus, with GVI and such, even Tascam realize that they will never be able to compete unless they have a real, open plugin format used in GS, like VSTi, and without GSIF and kernel level operation. Like I said, it's their own curse in the modern day DAW, and I think that even they have seen that.

YMMV, of course, but in my opinion, there isn't much left that GS can claim as doing that Kontakt can't do. And this year even 64 bit won't be an issue because Kontakt is also going 64 bit(as in software code, not engine, which is already there of course).

Brent,

You've gone "Chris-Hein Crazy!" :-o I hope you share some of your music that you make with the new libs.

It's actually quite fun! And inspiring as well. I haven't really shared much here in the past, but I'm eager to show this stuff off. So you can bet that I'll be sharing some stuff soon using these new toys.

I've also been using the Steven Slate Signature Drums, which use Kontakt as well, and I'm starting to wonder how I ever did without!

...sorry to join the club, but this is not true - Kontakt can be as simple as any other "lightweight" sampler. Load a sample, play - tweak the volume, panning, add a filter, add a modulator to the cut off - how can this be too much?
