Well, I answered in the other thread that you started. I would have answered in an extra email if you were in my customer database. Unfortunately I can not devote much time on email support for non-customers, hence I keep it in this forum.

Btw, are you using them in "Zebra" or in "Z3ta"?

?

The filters' KeyFollow use the very same value for their tuning that the oscillators use (as does the KeyFollow modulator)... thus, patches using self-oscillating filters (i.e. XMF stuff) should be microtuned just right...

However, any tuning/modulation in semitones is tuning/modulation in welltempered semitones. Anything else would involve a lot more maths, making microtunability a relatively cpu expensive feature...

The keyfollow is indeed microtuning compatible, and Zebra has succesfully been my go to synth for some time now in microtonal projects.

However, some parameters, such as filter frequency are definitely geared towards 12tET.

This isn't too much of a problem. As I assume that these 12tET values are locked to the global tuning (i.e. '0' is the base note of the .tun scale, and '12' is 1 octave above this) and so you can do ok with key follow and course/fine adjustments. It is not 100% ideal but is much more workable than many other plugs.

I have been meaning to ask about how possible it is to be making things a little more microtone friendly, as this feature of note values in 12tET instead of hertz is prominant across U-He plugs, and I seem to be using more and more (every plug except MFM atm).

I understand that it is difficult, as making values 'musically useful' is a step forward in a helpful direction, and as not many people are using microtunings it is a tricky balancing act.

I'm not urgently requesting any changes, as most things are quite workable so far. Maybe an option to see hertz for some parameters in some plugs (eg Runciter filter frequency, maybe in Filterscape). as hertz are a little more natural to work with when using alternate tunings. (and with, say, max/msp it might be possible to do some of the microtonal work outside of the plug). [edit... though I guess if controlling values w/ max it would be possible to convert the logarithmic values to hertz yourself.]

Hmm, long post sorry. Been thinking about asking these questions for a while, and accidentally came across this old post. Maybe should email?

cheers

You're looking at the Mac structure. For Windows they're here:

C:\Program Files\u-he\Tunefiles\

thanks for the reply Urs.

Unfortunately, I still cant find it in the directory you mentioned.

its like it doesnt exist. As I mentioned before Im using vista, so does that have any effect or something? .. I donno, Ill just reinstall again hopefully itll show up. :(

Oh, maybe you're in Vista's UAC mode. In that mode Zebra might not be able to write to the Program Files directory. Then I'd suggest to download the "pre-installed version for Receptor" from my website. It puts everything in Vstplugins\ instead of Program Files\u-he\ - which might help with file permission issues...

still no luck. I've installed it twice with the UAC off. I done it with the preinstalled version and normal version also.... and still no luck!! :(

dont know what to do else :help: :help: :help:

In the pre-installed version, just create a folder "Tunefiles" within Zebra2.data. Put your .tun files there. That should do!
