Midi Mapping XK3 - VB3?

Hi,
Can anyone help me to understand what I need to transmit midi from my XK3 to the VB3 I have on Receptor. Someone said I need a Midi Soutions Event Processor prgrammed to convert the midi/nrpn data fromt the XK3 to the VB3. Is there a midi utility you can put onto Receptor to program this software wise?
The modulation wheel/swell pedal/both manuals communicate fine, but the drawbars and buttons do not. I have the midi map for VB3, but am struggling to understand the midi map on the XK3 manual.
Back to some research!

You don't give many details about what you want to do, and why you need to map midi data. Plus, I am not familiar with the XK3 or the VB3. If you simply want to play the XK3's keyboard to play the VB3, then no midi mapping should be necessary.
But, I'll make a big assumption here that perhaps you want to use the XK3's drawbars to control the VB3's drawbars. If so, and also assuming that (1) the XK3's drawbars send midi control messages (midi CCs to the cognoscenti),(2) that the VB3's drawbars can be controlled with midi CCs, and (3) the midi cc numbers sent by the XK3s drawbars are different from those received by the VB3s drawbars and (4) neither the XK3 nor the VB3 allows you to re-assign the mnidi CC numbers, then, if all of the above are true, yes you need a midi mapper.
I use a Midi Solutions midi mapper with my Receptor and it works well. Also fits neatly behind the Receptor in the rack. I don't know if anybody else makes anything like this anymore.
Your idea of a "midi mapper VSTi" won't work. To process midi you need a midi FX plug-in and the Receptor doesn't support midi FX plug ins.

c3boy, if you have ax XK-3, why on earth do you want to play VB3? Just curious...
But the new XK3c may (and I mean may, the ad on the website is specifically unclear and there is no downloadable manual) allow you to reassign drawbar controllers. Which, of course, does you no good if you have the original.
But that's why the devil made eBay

Hi yes, I do want to control drawbars/percussion/cho/vib on the vb3 with the relevant controls on my xk3. So if no midi mapper is available for receptor i either wait until the v2.0 which apparently has midi learn incorporated into vb3, or get the midi solutions event processor. All buttons and drawbars on the original xks (which i have) transmit midi cc/nrpn data, i confirmed this with the bohme midi analyser software.
Dasher, I love the XK3 but the VB3 is better in my opinion, the chorus/percussion on the xk3 is poor, and i use a lot of that. The long loop sample of the XK3's is pretty much old hat now. If you check out the KeyBDuo and VB3 which are both Italian sound programmed, and purely modelled, well I think it smokes the XK3.
I can't fully evaluate it until I get it hooked up to my 122 leslie, but i have it next to my c3/122 rig and think its brilliant. Check out the VB3 videos if you haven't already on youtube.
Anyway, back to the original topic, midi mapping. Im just going to confirm that the midi template for VB3 in the manual is still working the way it should in receptor, i'll just use my CME controller for that, make sure all the cc's match up to the manual, then i can just go to Ashby Solutions and have them program me a Midi Solutions Event.
Or I could wait and see what happens on the v2.0 front.

Just to throw another (probably useless) option in your path, B4 supports midi mapping internally - but if you don't like the sound, who cares...

I am just waiting to hear back from ashby solutions on a midi solutions event box being programmed. The XK3 could be tricky to use as a controller according to Guido the developer of VB3

Try MidiMapper (http://www.kvraudio.com/get/2971.html), even if I've never tried it with Receptor.c3boy wrote:I am just waiting to hear back from ashby solutions on a midi solutions event box being programmed. The XK3 could be tricky to use as a controller according to Guido the developer of VB3
Take into account that I, as MidiKarval, am releasing a VB3 Controller VST, but, unfortunately it seems that VB3 1.1 "A sets" drawbars don't respond well to CC messages. The bug has been fixed in ver. 1.2 (beta).

Here's to you the beta version of "VB3 Controller for XK-3". It's a demo, but don't worry: few limitations and the price will be as low as 5 euros.
Hope it works, as I don't own a XK-3 and the controller is based on its manual specifications.
It has an "Inverted Keys" function because I don't know which kind of midi messages are sent by the XK-3 inverted octave.
You can download it here.
Any comment and suggestion are very welcome
(if you prefer you can write to support@midikarval.net).
Bye
Giovanni
