Yes, it must be version 2.5, not an X3. There was a driver and software update roadmap from E-MU, and EmulatorX 2.5 was planned on it for exactly these days. Don't dream about X3, but even 2.5 may be very good with many useful improvements and fixes.

Is there some phobia that Mac converts inhale, forcing them to sell or dumpster their PC just because they are getting a Mac? I'm not picking on you, abi, but I see a lot of posts around the net from Mac convicts -err 'converts', lamenting that synthxxx or
appyyy is not out for Mac, but they used it for years on their PC...why not just
have both? Set two monitors up at your main midi controller, put both computers under it, flanking your chair/bench, so that disks and power buttons are nearby...surely Mac and PC are just boring stubby synths that somehow shipped without the midi keyboards and roms... :) Just got my 0404 working this week,
I'll now face the EmuX2 blowout sales temptation too!
i did consider to keep my pc with the soundcard and the soft. as i have some outputs on my pc soundcard to use it is an option. but this would need further investment in my mac setup and right now i'm covered with exactly the number of inputs i need. and also i'm not content with my pc at all. i mean i get work done but it is really a slow machine (P4 3.2 Ghz) nowadays. if i had a core2duo machine with win xp i would be surely keeping it. it just would be much more convenient to run such a relative cpu-hog on the new machine without hassling with audio connections between mac and pc.

i really won't miss much stuff. apart from emulatorx and wusikstation...and maybe some voxengo plugs or the kjaerhus stuff...and maybe just pretty much all of the freeware...ok this is getting depressing...

plus, given that e-mu resolves their bank/presets management system, which is a complete mess as someone stated, i think emux2 can become very succesful commercially on both platforms. any usb product by e-mu will work as a dongle nowadays including midi interfaces and controllers. the synth architecture is more complex than any other i know and the filters are superb...

and also, i had really big problems with the first version of emux so this is the background for my silly cryout :hihi:

Here's hoping William K gets his Mac Wusikstation port off the back burner.
Maybe the group-buy is funding some Mac coder to help him with the port. Maybe you can use Bootcamp and a cheap e-mu usb dongle to fire up the e-muX on the shiny new silicon? 8)

But that's the beauty of sequencing MIDI/Audio on the Mac, and using the PC as a synth/effects processor. You don't need the most powerful PC, since a great deal of the strain is offloaded to your Mac. I'm still using an Athlon XP 2000 machine... Granted there are plugins that I can't even run one instance of, but there are a whole lot that I can run several of.

Jeremy_NSL wrote:The core product needs alot of usability enhancements. Like the fact that a new bank needs to be saved for *every song* if you alter any of the presets in the bank. Its bank/preset management is a complete mess. The onboard FX are pretty questionable too.

Wonderful sampler - if EMU just completely overhaul the GUI and preset management it will be a very competitive product (and one that NSL would support with soundware!)
I just got EX2 a couple of weeks ago and find the banks/presets thing hard to fathom. All I want to do is import some wav samples. I looked at the getting started manual but I'm still not sure why I need to keep saving the same exb file to import samples. Any insights you could share?

That's the Emulator X3 !
They announced those same features over a year ago as a point update (2.1)...

If you want to make a bank with your own samples, first create a new empty bank and import your samples in it. Emulator X2 can create the presets automatically then. True that the banks/presets system is different and can be a bit awkward or limited in some ways. At first I was a bit puzzled by it but it's in fact pretty simple and logical.

Refer to the PDF manual, chapter 11 (page 259).

yep,

a bit of a skank going on here IMO,

i reported a few bugs to ICHI in X2 (before he left E-MU) & was told they will be fixed in a soon to come update that would be free,

& i see none of the gripes listed as changed either,

if its sample/bank management was fixed/chainged then it would be worth it, but i'm not paying for this upgrade!!

Wack +1

has EMU announced already about their next emulator x?

Funny, I was going to PM you about this. I'll go check out chapter 11. Thanks.

As much as I love my Mac, this is the course I took, but in reverse. I didn't "convert" to a XP box (it's not a religion) I just got one. They sit happily next to each other, but fill different roles.

That said... I sense failure for the the X3 because I think too many people already have their audio interface and won't switch just to get some old samples and a sampler program. I think they'd be better served to selling a non-hardware version.

According to the press release, they have dropped requiring a HW dongle at all.

Kinda underwhelmed by the specs on this. Nice that they've done away with the dongle but they seem to have raised the price a fair bit to make up for that...
