no offence but in the past i've found installing updates or new patches a pita. here I go again...
the manual with howard's new science patches says...
copy the contents of these folders to the following locations:
Zebra Science: C:\Program Files\u-he\Presets\Zebra2\Zebra Science
I drag/drop the Zebra Science folder from the download into \presets\zebra2 but the Zebra Science patches don't show up in zebra's browser when I open it in my daw
???

btw, I have folders in \presets\zebra2 from previous howard patches called bassics, leaders, fillers etc
I thought I could just copy the new patches into those corresponding folders but that didn't work either
oi.......

Maybe you have a different folder for your patches, because you installed the latest Zebra 2 update for Receptor. Then you find the folder in your vst-directory/u-he/zebra2.data

all my current patches are here:
uhe\presets\zebra2
I don't understand why simply copying, for example, the latest "bassics" patches to my current "bassics" folder doesn't work. ???

i don't have it either, but Zebra didn't load in Live; so i tried the receptor-installation and it worked. Just check out, if you have a second folder there.politcat wrote:why would I do that, I don't have receptormellotronaut wrote:Maybe you have a different folder for your patches, because you installed the latest Zebra 2 update for Receptor. Silly question, are you trying to browse the patches with your DAWs preset browsing functions or the Z2 Presets tab in the VST? I ask because DAWs only detect .fxp (and on mac .aupreset) extensions for presets. Since Urs has a custom preset format this may be why you're not seeing them. It's worth a shot.

Ok, here's a screenshot of my installation on Windows XP. The very top shows the directory (I've renamed it to "0 Zebra Science" so it shows up at the top).politcat wrote:i'm browsing inside zebra, as always
that's in my first post

Be careful to notice Howard has named the directories for Zebra Science the same names as the Zebra Factory 2.2 presets.
If you don't see something similar to this, you might have accidentally chosen to do a receptorized install. This places the presets in a different location in order to work on the Muse Receptor. You can read more about this in the Zebra Manual.
The key part is the following:
I hope this helps. If you're on a PC running Windows, you would just choose the option "Install everything in Vstplugins" during normal installion on your computer. This will not only install Zebra2.dll in Vstplugins\u-he\ - it will also create a folder called "Zebra2.data" which contains presets and support files.

I don't want to incur your wrath, but I assume the Zeb Science folder has files in it and they are not zipped. That is all I can think of because I have always put my presets in that same location and they show up without a hitch. I don't have this patch set though.

The whole Receptorized install has become kind of a nightmare because of the 2 possible locations for things:
.../Program Files/u-he/Presets/...
.../Vstplugins/Zebra2.data/Presets/...
If you have latter, former is useless. That's because of the very nature of Linux-pretending-to-be-Windows.
To find out where your presets should go, open Zebra, save a patch with the name "WHERE_IS_ZEBRA" and search for that in Finder/Explorer.
I promise I'll take away the Receptor install and make this an extra download that people have to confirm twice, saying "I know what I'm doing! I know what I'm doing!" and "I swear!" - and then they have to type in two or three words that prove that they've read the manual. Or at least, they gotta prove that they know where it is.
Another thing is, I will make "Not using administrated user mode in Vista" a system requirement.
I'm sorry I'm not always clear about things. It's often because of pressure from the community and also because of linguistic contraints.

urs, anything you do to simplify in the future will be appreciated. I go through this every time I get new patches. I forget what I did last time...and I can't swear that I always know what i'm doing, ha!
thx for the help y'all

For me the 'receptor-install' was a good solution, because Zebra 2 didn't work in Live before.

This is an unnecessary, unhelpful and possibly offensive post - you've been warned.
For someone who's been constantly frustrated by the Tracktion 3 problems on the Mac, while reading about Windows users' bliss, it feels so good to be able to state:
1) I have no problems at all with the Zebra 2 GUI in Live (that's another thread, sorry)
and
2) I just dragged and dropped Howard's Science folder onto my Zebra presets folder alias (which I keep on my desktop), and the patches appear just like that in the browser, no probs whatsoever. And they sound absolutely great.
But this is on a PPC Mac and OS 10.4.10, hehe..
Happy Easter everybody, especially to the Heckmann family!
