Has anyone upgraded their E/W Colossus bundle with Goliath? Two questions...worth it? (Colossus is just OK IMO.) Since these bundles were mounted by MUSE can you DIY?
Thanks,

I have updated to Goliath on my PC only - It will not run on Receptor since it's the new PLAY interface which is iLok'ed. Don't know if/when Receptor will support PLAY.The Good Doctor wrote:Has anyone upgraded their E/W Colossus bundle with Goliath? Two questions...worth it? (Colossus is just OK IMO.) I think it's unfortunate the the Goliath soundset is no longer Kontakt2/3 loadable. I'm not sure it is worth the money. I haven't messed with it a lot....the PLAY interface is a little buggy, and I'm just really used to Kontakt .
All you need to update Colossus to Goliath is a Colossus Serial Number, they didn't discriminate against me for it being part of the Colossus/Receptor bundle (though some of the verbiage on their site indicated they could have).

Hybernation,
Thanks for the info...good to see you are still lurking in this forum. I have always found your posts helpful and insightful. I was surprised to read that you had sold your Receptor but I can undestand why.
I have lurked around this forum for 2 years. I am a college prof teaching music and recording technology and am firmly convinced that software instruments are the way to go. I maintain a busy performing schedule as well and use the Receptor primarily for live performance. Receptor sounds great but is faily awkward in live situations that requires many patch changes.
I have had some frustrating moments on the stage with this thing...I guess that's a part of life on the "bleeding" edge. I just can't justify ever spending bread on a hardware synth again.

Highly recommend you augment your live setup with something like a BCF2000 to control the Receptor. It's a bear to program but once you do, you can control eight receptor slots - volume, mute, patch changes, etc. I cannot imagine using Receptor live without something like this! The Good Doctor wrote:...Receptor sounds great but is faily awkward in live situations that requires many patch changes.
Totally agree. It seems like the price differential between hardware and software would have gotten smaller by now, but it doesn't seem to have for the majors anyway. My hardware keyboards are pretty old (emu PK6, Alesis QS 8.1, Roland VR760) but they are totally adequate for the occasional casual gig I do! (especially as loud as those guitar players playThe Good Doctor wrote: I just can't justify ever spending bread on a hardware synth again.
