i'm sure a few more zebras will make its way in to the finished thing so i will update this thread with the finished thing!! :D

PS, the MP3 sounds crap compared to the ogg i have, dose anyone know a free ogg hosting site that will let me direct link to the ogg file? (like the mp3 hosting site i'm using)

Subz,

This is not my genre by any means, but some cool sounds!

Hi Subz

Good one :) I dont feel the bas is there quite yet. You got all the movement and basics but the distortion type feels like FM distortion instead of real distortion. I myself would like to have the recipe for D&B basses on Zebra but somehow i think we might have to wait for another waveshape tool. We need more mid range distortion for D&B basses i think.

Anyways, enjoyed the track :)

I like the bass here, though it might be a little too loud overall... just opening the filter somewhat would probably give it the more traditional DNB sound, if that's what you wanted :) I did a dnb song as well recently using mostly Z2. Definitely powerful for this kind of sound. Nice drum programming and vocal chops.

Hay :)

thanks for the feedback :D

Urs did say the distortion side of Zebra should be getting a upgrade at some point so fingers crossed :)

when i finish of the track i can always add some dirt externally (although it wont quite be the same)

Hay, Thanks Zircon :)

yes my levels never where that good any how

i think i need to work on the EQing of the drums to get a better match with the bass TBH

need to do a bit of pulling here & there so i can get them to sit insted of fight,

not that i want it to clean :scared:

but i'm mostly just enjoying not having to watch my plugin count or freeze tracks since my upgrade from the old AMD XP2200+ :hihi: (& thats only using one of my two cores :o )

looking to finish this one though,

its been too long since i finished something!!

All the best

I find the only problem with the distortion modes already in Zebra is that there are so many interdependant parameters. Tip: play around with Input and Output levels (and Edge) more than with Depth (which I hardly ever use, BTW!)

i didn't think this tune would be up your street Howard :hihi:

:D

i personally like the distortion thats on the few different running bass lines in this track, :scared:

& find the distortion in Z2 far from useless but its also not one of its stronger points IMHO (XMF  )

nice track there, but I also think your bass should be a bit rougher. I'd process it with something like camelphat (or some other good fuzz distortion, mixed in at 25% wet or so)

And I do agree the xmf is massive!

i'm sure some more dirt might make its way into the finished track

along with some other sounds & at least one more main bass (as just the same bass looping from start to finish is kinda lazy for a D&B track IMO)

Subz
use an mp3 encoder that uses lame, and convert at 192 or above (with all other options set to highest quality), should sound almost perfect.

here's a free one: http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/?q=download

i had a quick listen. i make dnb but this isnt really my kind of thing so cant comment too much.

i think the kick doesnt come through with the bass present.

you can get round this by mixing sub (basically pure sine) and mid bass separately, since you can control the weight and power via the sub independantly of the mids warmth, and set up space for the kick between them. this is common practice in dnb nowadays, but it may not be suitable for your taste of course, or you may even do it already? just didnt sound like you've got a very clear sub or kick as it could be, and its maybe a bit messy and loud in the low mids.

also the highs sound a bit loud and harsh here, and id turn up the atmos at the start a lot.

sounds good to me though otherwise :) , its just not my musical taste.

thanks for the feedback :)

the kik needs lots of work!!

the sub sine has its very own Zebra :) so getting the mix right should not be two hard (i hope)

i'm looking to keep the atmos low as other sounds still need to be added & another bass, once that is done i will sort the variations of the bass', then i will work on getting the mix to kik through without messing up the hole mix :hihi:

at present i have cut most of the sub out of the kik to spare a even moodier mixdown :)
