I think many of you are missing the point that Korg obviously gets:

It's a synth you can take with you, nothing more, nothing less. If you're going to get a synth that syncs up with other midi gear or your DAW, get professional gear, not a gameboy.

However, if you're in it for fun and want to make your bus or plane ride more relaxing and enjoyable while exploring synths, that's what this (and pretty much all other synth homebrew I mentioned plus more that deal with sampling) do. They're fun, they're portable and that's that. If at any point you think your DS is suddenly going to become a part of your studio, you're more dillusional than Quaid on Total Recall.

Seriously...

It's not a toy, but it's not professional either. I'm still wondering why everyone wants every piece of gear or what have you to talk to every other piece of gear? If it makes rhythm AND tones, why can't it just BE?

Keep your DAWs and gear separate from gems like this. You'll get more out of the DS/PSP/GBA programs and you'll have less headache trying to get your DAW to marry it. Everyone comes out a winner.

But what do I know? I'm just a bedroom producer dork.

I hear what your saying, hseiken. This is not intended a serious addition to your DAW. Although saying that there's nothing to stop you sampling the hell out of it.

The video of the DS-10, that AQ Interactive posted on You Tube, has had just under 190,000 views it was posted a week ago!!

EDIT: Actually it's only the first 2 minutes of this vid!

DS-10 videos are popping up on e-bay all the time now.

I'm not sure if this is still set for a July release in Japan. Even so it will probably take a while longer for it to reach these shores. Hopefully not though. Can't wait to have a play around with this.

Mmmmmm.....I wonder....what software should I get to go with it.

ds glitch for a start :hail:

there are so many ds things that do sync to midi already, even without any hardware hacks.
basically buy a homebrew card and thats it, no actual hacking, nuthin!
even nitrotracker now has midi connection with compuetr software(im not saing the d word), havent tried it myself though as im addicted to glitch ds :D

I got myself one of these earlier this year. 1.8Ghz, 2Gb ram, built in wifi, Windows XP, voice and hand writing recognition, runs all of my current VSTs and software, under $700. Not only can I play games, program synths and create music, I can surf the net on my toilet. Actually anywhere on the property, all the way from the curb to the back fence.

Yes it will work.

DS Lite is more compact and has a better screen. Both run the same software.

But i think there are two versions of some of the homebrew cards - one for DS one for DSLite... that might have changed now - its been awhile since I looked :)

My Fujitsu is 1.5 x 9.5 x 11.5. It's ok but my wife's $400 1Gh Compaq TC1000 is a little underpowered for DAW use but it's aces in style. Without the optional keyboard it's 10.75 x 8.5 x 0.75 and it runs reasonably cool.
