Behringer news letter came today
energyXT2
BEHRINGER is proud to announce it has formed a strategic alliance with XT Software to bundle their energyXT digital audio workstation with selected BEHRINGER products. With either energyXT2 version, you can record instruments and vocals directly to your computer, cut, copy and paste tracks, and then mix them to your heart's content. But unlike other DAW programs with comparable features, energyXT2 lets you:
Run on every modern computer— Intel/AMD-Win, PPC and Intel-Mac, Linux- PC (that meet basic energyXT CPU and RAM requirements)
Run on Windows XP, Vista (32-bit), OS 10.x, Linux
Run from any mobile drive (USB thumb drive, SD card, external HDD)
Start the program and load your session within five seconds
Take away both the application and all project data to another computer or external drive across operating platforms
Never again struggle with locked installation to a single computer

Lies. You can deallocate / unload the DLL and remember what VST + FXP that was loaded. the state would be the same.
That's how an action-based undo system works. You don't undo the instance, you undo the action. IE. You reverse the action + have some state info about the action. Like current preset and path to DLL.
AFAIK this doesn't work in all cases though. I don't think plugins are quite so verbose in terms of communicating what is going on to the host, which leads to problems in plugins with a proprietary preset format or don't broadcast certain parameters, for example. At a laymans' guess you could maybe make some kind of image of the plugin's space in the memory, but I'd imagine it'd be quite involved and would need to be compressed or some kind of meta-format.

Well saving the plugin id and an FXP wouldn't always work and surely would not work on our new synth because we avoid FXP like the plague because it is rubbish

Having said that it would be quite easy to create a temp save state using the GUID of each control in the plugin and i would think that is the only correct way to do things to be honest

Quite funny reading this thread because when i said a lot of this stuff a long long time ago i was a whiner and the old NAS was gone and blah blah blah blah

A major problem exists now for Jorgen in the fact that a lot of older users have moved to other DAWs to work while waiting for XT2 to catch up but it isn't catching up and they have no plans on coming back
It's going to be a big big update to start to bring those users back and start laying praises all over the tinternet again

Anyway good luck Jorgen because it certainly looks from this thread that you are going to need it ;)

Nah. If that would be the case every plugin with owner-handled preset management wouldn't be able to save/restore their preset state ;)

Oh, get over it already :P
it was only me that said that, & i was having a bad day

like i said then, i agreed with your points!

i did not agree with you popping up in every thread saying the same thing every time (aka whining)

seeing as most posters in that thread took your side & i said sorry more than once, i kind of hoped you would be over it by now?

Yay - midi out being fixed on new arrangements in the sequencer. Thank God for that.

I know it's probably not as important as some of those other outstanding bugs, but it didn't make sense to have multiple sequencer arrangements but only really be able to use one of them.

I will be quite chuffed if this is fixed.

OK - back to the regularly scheduled misery. :P

It wouldnt go down well with the users if this list started long and got smaller as the release date got closer.

I think he has big features to add to this public list but they are still being finalised/tested, and the ones listed now are the ones that are totally fixed for sure.

lookin forward to friday ;)

You know that scene in Raiders Of The Lost Ark at the end? With the giant warehouse full of boxes?

That's where the FRs end up...

...well, I already mentioned before that I'm wondering what Jorgen's targeted user-base these days is, and my impression is, that one source of the problem is, that in Norway trance and techno is very fashionable right now.
That's true. I somehow don't like when such programmes are made with a special music genre in mind. But is can be seen everywhere. For instance, I also have the impression that Reaper is highly targeted at Rock music, which I do not use for, though.

Yes, you can probably smell the musical background of the creator of the software in most cases, but with Reaper it's imo by far not as obvious anymore - e.g. Reaper has long surpassed energyXT regarding MIDI - also I think for working with loop-based music Reaper would be much more suitable as of now.

As soon as I open XT2 these days there's a strong smell of cheap overly simplicistic trance coming out of my computer - not totally unlike certain types of cheese.

heh :D

I really look forward to a day when XT2 gets some major new features, not just bug fixes. It's been a while since anything that special has been added...
