couple of choruses after my noodling you can solo on
this is a pretty free-form collab -- one, because I'm thinking maybe more people will participate this way -- and two, because I'm on dial-up and there's no way in hell I could collect everybody's takes and compile them into a final master
hey Watto, just sitting here writing a lead sheet for the next one (yes, it's another song I can't actually play!:hihi: ). This one's truly obscure, if it's in any fake book in the known universe I can't find it. Exquisite tune though
Yes. That's a human ear, all right.

Hey, beboop, excellent playing there, also, quite some authentic sound, may I ask what you're using? Mainly interested in the guitar but a little info on your recording path wouldn't harm either.

hi Sascha -- the guitar's a cheapo, a Dean Stylist I bought off eBay for $175. 15" plywood archtop, build quality isn't great but it's a nice design and sounds good.
The amp sim is Juicy 77, with just a touch of the Kjaerhus freebie reverb. That signal is panned a bit left, and also sent to the cubase Double Delay with the two delays panned hard right and left.
The dry guitar signal is also copied to another track, with no effects (or I think maybe a compressor used for a little gain boost), bass rolled way off, panned center. That track by itself is a pretty thin, nasal sound, but combined with the Juicy 77 track it seems to add a little prescence.
Anyway, cheap guitar, freebie plugs, lots of trial and error
You wanta play some? I know the rhythm track isn't much, kind of wanted to get things moving here quickly. Next one will be better

Hi beboop, thanks for the info. Shows what you can do once you know your stuff.
Need to get me one of those full body jazz guitars one day. My Ibanez 335 clone (pre Artist series), while being absolutely great (probably better than most originals), doesn't sound any close to that.
Apart from that, I still need to finish configuring my new Macbook (the old one broke completely, *sigh*...), but of course that's more or less just an excuse. The truth being that in the last months (for a variety of reasons), I've been absolutely uninspired to even pick my guitar up at home for other reasons than to practise for some jobs. Let alone firing up whatever sequencer to record something (hence my absence on KVR for almost half a year or so).
But things seem to be getting better, so I might be up one day sooner or later to take part in whatever collaboration you folks come up with.

Nah, I'm not that much of a jazzer. Besides, one guitar is enough for this thing and you're doing absolutely fine.beboop wrote: You wanta play some? I know the rhythm track isn't much, kind of wanted to get things moving here quickly. Next one will be better

Heheh, okay.Watto wrote:

Beboop, any chance for a bass-less version? Otherwise maybe I'll just EQ it out (though that never completely takes out the bass) temporarily.
EDIT: Never mind, I guess you're on dialup, and the EQing thing will work well enough.

yes, there is! I'd say there's an excellent chance of a bass-less version being posted to this very topic within, oh, the next twenty-four hours or so.Gregjazz wrote:

Any chance we could also make that a drum-less version?
Yes. That's a human ear, all right.

Oh I forgot, I want fries with that, too.beboop wrote:yes, there is! I'd say there's an excellent chance of a bass-less version being posted to this very topic within, oh, the next twenty-four hours or so.Gregjazz wrote:

Hahah, no problem it's working fine with EQ.

nah, seriously, it's absolutely no problem to put up a bass-less version! The bit about drum-less was just a droll way of asking if you'd like to also do drums, the existing ones are pretty utilitarian.Gregjazz wrote:

Well I'll get the bass-less track up here shortly

yeah, your Ibanez is a much nicer and more versatile guitar -- the Stylist does do that one sound really well though. Really comfortable to hold, too, the shape is pretty close to an OM or a classical, but shallower (about 3" iirc).Sascha Franck wrote: Need to get me one of those full body jazz guitars one day. well when you feel up to it drop in and take a chorus or so -- kind of hoping we can keep one of these going more or less continuously, by keeping them short and de-centralized, everybody gets space to solo and nobody gets stuck having to mix it all down. well, we'll see -- so far, so good!

Well I finished playing in the bass track for the whole backing. (and a bass solo, but on a different track)beboop wrote:nah, seriously, it's absolutely no problem to put up a bass-less version! MP3s:

And in case someone wants to align them in a project file (I find MP3 conversion adds a little silence at the beginning)... The backing track is 132 BPM.

wait, wait -- I'm lost!
Gregjazz, what is emily-backing.wav? Did you do a new backing, or is that the old one with the bass eq'd out?
Anyway, here's the bass-less track, 132bpm with a 2 bar count-in
http://www.kara-moon.com/download_song. ... ad_id=4519
And in case we have, or get, new drums, here's the guitar only --

(yes, dial-up is a cruel, cruel affliction. You guys living in the developed nations have no idea how we suffer!)
edit: listening to the track with your bass -- blessed relief! Now it sounds like music
dl'ing the solo now...

No, it's the same exact backing as you posted, but as a WAV file... also I wanted to make sure it aligned with my tracks, because when you encode something as an MP3 it'll add like a quarter or eighth of a second delay at the beginning. I may have clipped off any silence at the beginning of the MP3 when tempo-aligning it.beboop wrote:wait, wait -- I'm lost!

I used to have dial-up for the longest time, so I know what you mean.beboop wrote: (yes, dial-up is a cruel, cruel affliction. You guys living in the developed nations have no idea how we suffer!)
