Inspired by another thread, I hereby call all Symptohm users to share their presets. Each program will be added to this post and dated.

Code: Select all

Instructions:

Some melohman programs contain custom samples. They are in .wav format. These need to be moved into your 'vstplugins/ohmforce/symptohm/samples' directory, or wherever you have chosen to install the plugin. You will find a 'samples' directory somewhere within the symptohm folder structure. The preset file (.qfm) goes into the Manufacturer folder (or a subfolder of your own choice within this folder)
Melohman Programs:

19.02.2019: *UPDATED LINKS* All links to my presets work again. The .zip files are hosted on Google Drive now so I should be able to keep these up for quite some time. Some of the packages have updated preset files (mainly volume adjustments and making sure the mod wheel is used in every preset). I was unfortunately not able to find the 3 meta patches by JamesB. I couldn't even find them on any of my backup drives going back all the way to 2007 and 2008. If any samples fail to load or links are broken then let me know via PM!

It may seem like there are very few presets here but keep in mind that each .Zip file contains a "meta-patch". That means each patch contains 12 different sounds. My presets are rarely only variations but rather individual standalone sounds. Also keep in mind that Symptohm lets you "parameter lock" knobs and settings so that you can browse through a new set of samples while keeping all synthesis targets locked.. or vice versa. This is a great way of quickly creating a ton of variations. Anyhow, enjoy this fantastic synth. Even after more than 10 years it's still as unique as it was the day it was born!

06.11.2008:
Here is a new meta preset that has been tweaked a lot. I'm finally quite happy with the results so I present them here. Remember to tweak that modwheel. Copy the included samples into your Symptohm samples folder.

005 Broken Dreams

6.4.2008:
A new program that I made yesterday. The oscillators use a sample from one of my Helix presets. It's a seamlessly looped stereo sample which means that it's been split into Left and Right mono files so make sure you copy both of the included samples into your Symptohm samples folder. Enjoy!

004 Commoner

31.3.2008:
This is an old preset that I made the day I bought Symptohm. I've tweaked it a bit today and added some not so sensible names to the individual melohman preset slots. Again, remember to copy the samples into the Symptohm samples folder. Enjoy!

003 Starshimmer Keys

31.3.2008:
Here is a melohman preset which contains the infamous THX kind of sound that you can hear in the beginning of the wacky Ohmforce tutorial videos. It's the sound in the last melohman slot. I think this program is pretty neat as it has everything from typical trancey stabs to thick ghost like pads. Remember to copy the included sample into your Symptohm samples directory. Enjoy!

002 Deep Tune Variations

15.3.2008:
I'll start with a new preset that I created today. It contains a custom seamlessly looped sound from Sytrus. Can't really describe it.. kind of EPish but some variations are pretty far out there. Enjoy!

001 Sytrusee Keys

Cheers!

Bump to bookmark :)

Nice idea - I've been a bit lazy with this one

Nice and timely call Bmaniac.

I just spoke with the Ohmies a couple weeks ago about helping get the SM tutorial finished (finally!).

Hope to add to this thread soon!
Want to change your additive synth into an addictive one? You just need 5000 Cs!

Excellent Thanks so much!

I just noticed that I haven't added after touch to any of the parameters. This is probably due to the lack of aftertouch on this crappy behringer keyboard so if you guys have any ideas what control on any particular program (midi controllers are global per melohman preset, unfortunately) then let me know and I'll add it!

Any other comments or feedback on the presets would be much appreciated. I'm not afraid of critique either so let me know if the patches are playable or not!

Cheers!

Yes, thanks for this bmanic! :)

Symptohm is one of my favorite under-appreciated synths. :(

Well, other than the metapatch I did already on the ohmforce site, I've not done a lot of work, so this is a welcome thread. Symptohm is one of those synths that doesn't seem to get a lot of love, although it is totally deserving. I'll take this as a challenge to see what I can come up with.

Thanks for the new patches. They are really inspiring. I do love Symptohm but I sure wish I could manage to make patches myself. I have been through the tutorial but even modifying an existing patch is beyond my powers. All I can do to an existing patch is mangle it into an useless unmusical mess. So please keep 'em coming.

Cheers,
Gordon

very playable stuff here, bmanic.
too bad I've forgotten much of what I knew about symptohm. but your work is inspiring! I need to find the new manual ,plus old post from Tim Conrardy and dig back into this marvelous synth.

I actually have a variation on your melohman program. I'll post that once it's finished (it just needs some polish and correct velocity ranges for things).

I'll also try to post a mini-tutorial on how I create patches in Symptohm. There are some very useful tricks that you can use to truly "abuse" the various monophonic elements like the Filter Bank controls and the Mixer that feeds the filter bank.

Symptohm is really not as complex as one would think it is, you just need to learn some of the basic modulation possibilities and then remember that each and every control has it's own! No shared LFO's, no shared envelopes (if you want to duplicate modulations then just use the copy/paste function).

What I think people might have some trouble understanding, from a programming perspective, is the polyphonic elements (oscillators, VCA and main filter) versus the monophonic ones (mixer controls, blend control, ring mod re-route knob, all filter bank controls). Once you get a hang of those and the modulation sources, you'll be a long way into programming stuff on this beast.

Also, don't be afraid of using the randomizer/mutation feature. Just hit that thing a couple of times and start cleaning up whatever noise you got from it. :)

Cheers!

Thanks Bmanic! I would really like to see how you do this.

Btw I spent a very pleasant hour playing with your patches this weekend. They, as my kids would say, are "Sick"

Best Regards,
Gordon
