Once it doesnt affect the downloadable nature of the plugs (I HATE physically shipped stuff) Synchrosoft is ok here, i never had any problem with plugs that use this system and installation is a charm.
I found much more a mess the ilock thing.

I think that you can transfer the Syncrosoft license over to your USB key if you want to do that.ttoz wrote:wow i wish it had a bloody dongle option then.D-Fusion wrote:I don't think that they are moving to Dongles, but that they will use the Syncrosoft eLicense instead which doesn't require any Dongle.
But i prefer the Syncrosoft software version over any Dongles

Some questions:
1. If LinPlug goes under, what will happen when I need a reauthorization? Is SS going to deny me access? What if SS goes under?
2. I thought I had read somewhere that the SS method used encryption and decryption. What is the performance hit associated with this? Is there any replicable data out there that shows this?
3. My DAW is not connected to the internet. How much of a pain is this going to be for me?
4. I plan on doing a few hardware upgrades (and possibly OS) in the near future. How much of a pain is this going to be for me?
5. My free time is limited, and therefore valuable. Does SS have any policy to compensate me for time lost due to failures I might encounter with their product.

Would you buy a beautiful car with a key that weights 10Kg, just because the vendor says "with this system it's much more difficult that the car is stolen from our shops"?luxth wrote:Once it doesnt affect the downloadable nature of the plugs (I HATE physically shipped stuff) Synchrosoft is ok here, i never had any problem with plugs that use this system and installation is a charm.

If 90% of all the cars on their lot were being stolen they would certainly turn to something worse than a 10kg key

For Syncrosoft dongled products :mumpcake wrote:Some questions:

1/ Worse with companies with c/r system . What if Microsoft goes under ?
2/ Not noticeable on my Pcs
3/ None. My main daw is not connected to the internet. All my syncrosoft software are installed on it. Once the product is on the key, you can install it where you want.
4/ None. Its not hardware dependant.
5/ What failure ? You key might be broken, and then it will be replaced. You might loose your key, or be stolen. This is the same with your car. Does any other known software offers such a thing ? When you buy software all you do after buying is your own affair. If you're a professional you can have insurances to cover this risk (As we have for hardware instruments). You'll have to pay for that
Hope this helps

So, question is how do others manage to stay in business without Syncrosoft (Cakewalk is one, but there are many more of course...)

Only if you keep in mind, that your answers were regarding a hardware key (20Eurp extra) and not the software key.Lotuzia wrote:Hope this helps
You need the internet one way or another, to connect with the internet base from Synchrosoft - happened for me at least with Halion 3. Then again, you can install synchrosoft on an internet PC and move the key over to your studio PC. Again, if we talk about the hardware key here.

We are not talking about the dongle. We are talking about the soft-eLicenser (SeL). Most of your responses are therefore irrelevant.Lotuzia wrote:For Syncrosoft dongled products :mumpcake wrote:Some questions:

This is a useless answer on a few levels. First of all, it does not answer my question as to what would happen if LP and/or SS were to go under. Second, it is blatantly wrong. NI uses C/R and claims to guarantee that if they go under they will release a public key. Third, if Microsoft goes under anytime soon, we will have bigger problems than being unable to authorize systems, so it's irrelevant.1/ Worse with companies with c/r system . What if Microsoft goes under ?
What would have been a useful answer is if someone from LP answered that they had a key escrow program or knew that SS had a policy of handling registrations for expired companies.
That's not what I asked. Maybe you might be running a plug at 8% CPU on your system, but you have no way of knowing if it could be running better without the CP. I specifically asked for replicable data.2/ Not noticeable on my Pcs

What happens- what EULA states? By accident that you don't have any rights whatsoever?mumpcake wrote:Some questions:

So except in such case you may be left with unusable software except when resorting to cracks.

Interesting topic. I have heard so much talk here about dongles. I currently have only 2 products with a Syncrosoft dongle - Cubase 4 and Eosis stuff. Both perform without issues. In fact looking at the Syncrosoft site it states that over 500,000 e-licenses have now been sold and the core tech MCFACT has never been cracked and is now licensed to Microsoft. In the past I had up to 6 products with dongles but never has any dongle impacted my work or product. The NI or C/R system doesn't bother me either.
I don't see why every dev shouldn't protect their creative work with at least an elicenser. If everyone in this world had all they needed and created for the sake of creation then no protection would be necessary unless you just didn't want to share your work.

Using this analogy, it is up to the dealer to protect the cars on his lot - yes, absolutely. But once the car is sold to you, should it not then be YOUR responibility to protect your purchase?1-2-Many wrote:If 90% of all the cars on their lot were being stolen they would certainly turn to something worse than a 10kg key

The dealer can keep his cars chained up with brick walls around every vehicle, but he shouldn't have the right to demand you continue to keep the car this way once it is in your driveway...and then monitor how many times you drive your new car or give permissions on where you want to take it.
This is what intrusive copy protection does; ultimately, it treats the honest customer like a criminal while the criminals themselves have no such restrictions. It is the same as gun laws: Not allowing citizens to legally own guns makes no difference on how many criminals will have guns. It only restricts the person wishing to act in an honest and legal manner. (Just look at Washington D.C. for an example of this.)
The industry should be attacking the websites which enable illegal file sharing; shutting down PirateBay and TorrentSpy would be taking steps in a more proper direction, instead of letting them exist un-challenged and saddling the legit purchaser with the burden of unnecessary and innefective restrictions.
