EG: 120 bmp, 2/4 is 0.50 seconds, but you may want to use 0.54 seconds let's say on the Left channel, and 0.50 on the right, is just more fun. ;) This will be detailed on the manual.

Keeping the numbers up top is fine. Can you at least just put a 'check' by what I selected in the delay list, and add 'off' as another option as well? I'm just saying you make a selection, and have really no verification of what you selected UNLESS you know that 2/4 is 0.50 off the top of your head. Any other program that I've seen have a drop down list at least gives you an indication of what you selected.

WilliamK wrote:Well, that's the design and we are sticking with it. Some will love, some will not. The letters are suposed to look like that. But your comment about not being easy to read could be related to the monitor and resolution you are using. Here on my LCD at 1024x768 is very easy and nice to read. ;)
Oh, 17" LCD and 1280x1024. Not so easy to read. The red and orange colors are pretty similar. If the background was a little darker in the reds, it stand out more.

William ... just reading the comments about monitor resolution, etc.... I have a nice big CRT display set about the same rez as you have, but lately have been working with some people with LCD and other types of Flat Panel displays....

These don't really work well except the 'native' resolution they are made for... with is often in the 12xx by xxxx ranges....

so it maybe something for you to consider in the future as many people will be semi forced to read displays of this kind on both lap and desktop pc's.

... just a thought :)

But buddy, I just told you that this is just a BMP to Seconds converter, not a sync to tempo, is different. ;) But I will see what I can do. :P

ah got beta 9... and I think your led logo is a kewl idea... but by now you most likely know the font for the messages in the LFO Masters message is perhaps a little "too retro"... hahaha like back to age when we didn't yet have led fonts!

I think it would read better with a just a small caps font for all the messages, don't you? Characters like the lower case "g", etc, make it jumbly and hard on the vision.

I do like the read outs when moving the mouse around... how about more over them.

Now I'm noticing two things distrubing about the sound... haven't tested this with every sample but here, try this:

set the only sound to play on channel ONE, use SUI88

extend it over the full range, don't use any mods or effects, or EQ's. Just the straight basic sound.

set your volume fader about a little above half way [maybe even to 3/4]

play one note... all is good

play a two note chord or 3 note chord...

do you see the volume peak into red? I do. This seems to happen more with some 'instruments' than with others. Why is that? Seems to me you should be able to play a chord without out the volume peaking, no???

Secondly, even more disturbing is the way the loop points of the samples are working.... this is particularly strong on the Solina samples:

just hold a single un-modified note down and let it sustain for many repetitions of the loop... I hear a very obvious loop point beating and volume or amplitude increase each time the loop begins... again, some notes are worse than others... try it on the lower ranges of the keyboard...

I would expect a smooth sustain sound, no??? or is this some retro 'true to the real thing' effect? LOL If that's the case, I would vote for less true to ancient things and a nice clean sustain for as long as the key is pressed. That beating really bothers me and makes playing notes held for a long time just about not useable IMHO.

anyone else bothered by this???? :?:

Aha! Gotcha! ;) But ya gotta make it idiot proof for the idiots like me though. ;)

I was just double checking some of the info about 'beating' of the loop points and what seems to be too much amplifacation of chorded notes on certain instrumentss in my last post.

I was comparing for example the why the EVE B3 sounds, compared with Combo sister and also with the NI B4 organs....

I think it's pretty clear when you compare this way that the sound of the B3 in EVE is not up to par with these others... maybe, and only maybe, that beating of the loop point is intentional but if so I don't love it....

the NI B4 has what I would think of as the most realistic sound on a long sustained note.... hope you will check it out.

along these same lines... in EVE, the SUI88 seems to NOT have any prob. in this area..., the Solina really has it bad, .... etc. and when Solina is used in a mix with say the B3 [one on each channel and playing long sustained note for them both] the beating between each of the diff loop points for each instrument gets really strange to my ears...

Post

Max, all those comments on the samples are mostly based on how those old synths sounds. The b3 is not perfect at all, that's why a lot of "purists" hate the guts of the B4, is too clean.

Please, read the last Klaus post on this thread, he explains the samples (he did the samples)

About the messages, I think we will make all UPPER-CASE, since is easier to read. ;)

ok well thanks William at least now I understand about somewhat about the samples... if you like the beating of the loop point in the Solina, and if that is vintage, so be it...

I would maybe wonder then about increasing the options for EVE by including other sets of samples... say a solina 2 that had a clean sustain sound?

[ I kind of sense you will tell me, "but that wouldn't be vintage or retro"... well maybe not but it would make EVE a more versitile vsti, eh?]

I still didn't hear about the volume peaking comment... is that really the way you want it to be?

Read the top post of page 5 in this thread about Solina. ;)

peaking volume will be adjusted somehow,

about solina, the problem of the current SoundSet is that Solina was sampled with ti's own chorus on, this is good since it is a unique vintage effect,
but this also makes looping harder,

anyway since we have many LFOs and effects on EVE, maybe a plain Solina
would be better, and we'll include that set,

considering also the the nature of EVE is to layer vintage electronic sounds,

so you may want something like A= rhodes B=solina 8' C = hammond 4'

this would make a wonderful rich layered patch, each source with it's own 3
LFOs,

so of course samples have to fit together at best,

Post

Oh, good point, Max, be sure you did download the complete-beta-4 files. Since for beta-4 I updated the samples. ;)

Post

thanks devon... yes I recall your posts about this, and yes William I did get the full beta 4 I believe but will dbl check by installing it all again... maybe I missed something there... let's be sure...

I do think liqih's thought is what I was saying... and I don't see why having additional sets of samples for certain intrument would hurt anything... it seems like it would only make EVE better

so, ummm would it be possible on the next beta to send up a complete installer, samples and all?

Beating loops are not vintage and shouldn´t appear, all the samples for EVE are looped flawless and we´ll doublecheck this issue with William. It would help if you could point out the specific keys where these unwelcome artifacts occur. Thanks!

I like the new look...I do still have issue on the samples...As I said before...I can hear the difference between noise from the original equipment and the other loop-point noise that I was talking about...That particular noise could not be from some piece of gear as it also happened on Tubi samples during b-tests...Have these samples been batch processed and one or two with variation therefore don't behave or have I just lost my marbles...?

William...examples are in your mail...:)
