Ok well i just did a 15 min mix of a track i started thats been laying around. I replaced my usual URS compressors with the Feed-Forward. It's the 1st time I've had a chance to actually mix with them. Wow I know I'm the the developer but i have to say it's not right that the FF is punchier then my usual goto URS compressor. :)
Theres part of me that doesn't want it to sound better. I love my URS plugs :?

For those that are curious checkout my test.
Quick FF test mix.mp3
I used the Feed-back on the rhoads.
Keep in mind this is just an sketch idea i'm working on nothing final.

Ooh! Is it just on the rhodes or other instruments as well?

I used the feed-forward on every drum. This was mainly a FF test..

I'm curious: what settings do you tend to use on drums? This compressor is so snappy - it sounds nice and punchy - but I tend to wind up with increased peaks once I get them sounding the way I want, and need to put a limiter on the main bus. Is this normal?

Here's a sample where I used the FF compressor on all the drum channels and bass guitar:

FFG_NoVeiris(dry).mp3

FFG_Veiris.mp3

I dig the sound, but I worry about the increased peaks. I'm probably not used to using a dbx-style compressor.

Hey vieris nice compressors!

but mostly nice drums and atmoshpere on that demo track

are these programmed drums (or human)? what sound library did you use I can hear some darbuka towards the end? and what plugin doing the rhodes sound?

is there a full length version of the track somewhere? I really dig it, it's my dope

Yes FF's are very punchy & peaky.

My usual drum kit path is
Kick in = Gate, FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (kick attack/impact thud)
Kick out = Gate, FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (Kick Boom)
Snare Top = Gate, FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (Snare Body)
Snare Bottom = Gate, FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (Snare crack)
Tom 1 = Gate, FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (hard pan R)
Tom 2 = Gate, FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (pan R)
Tom 3 = Gate, FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (pan L)
Tom 4 = Gate, FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (hard pan L)
Hat = FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (hard pan R)
Ride = FFComp, EQ, Drum Buss (hard pan L)
Overhead L = Overhead Buss (hard pan)
Overhead R = Overhead Buss (hard pan)
Overhead Buss = FBComp, EQ, Drum Buss
Drum Buss = FFComp/Tape Saturation, 100% send to Parallel Drum Comp buss
Parallel Drum Comp buss = squashed FF or FB Comp. Depends.

With 32/64bit internal i don't worry about individual drum track peaks to much. Everything get routed to the Drum buss with the comp/tape saturation. That catches the peaks.

Thanks and it's a track i'm just starting to work on. The rhoads in AAS LL. No samples for me. I'm a Drummer 1st and foremost thats all human. Including the drifting time :? But hey it's a work in progress.
I actually posted it here a few weeks ago as a colabortive project but no one was really into it.

Ah! Well, there you go: my instinct was to put a limiter, comp or sat on the drum bus (usually do anyway). It's just so snappy! Its power scares me! :-o

And thanks for the detail! I was wondering specifically what kind of attack/release/ration settings you tend to use. I noticed that going too low on the attack with these compressors tended to make a "farty" sound, didn't seem so good for a beefy, fast-attack+release sound; but they sound fine in the 11.00-and-up range.

What EQ's are you using?

Thanks
Well crap maybe i should always just create a drum line & a single rhoads part and only mix for 15mins. I've been wasting hours. :)
