Pre-Purchase question re copy protection...

As a long time user of Rob Papen's Blue, I have never felt the need to purchase Zebra, but....

RP is now adopting synchrosoft, and I will not be buying any more synth's (or updates) from him in the future. Question is, will Zebra retain it's present c/p, or are there plans to change it in the foreseeable future?

My understanding is that Urs has one of the best c/p around, and does not need the more intrusive systems.

If everything is going to stay the same, I'll jump ship to u-he.com

Everything I've heard from Urs is exactly what you stated. There's a forum topic he started a few months ago asking about changing the serials from one method to another. This is strictly an algorithmic change and just means you get a new key. From what I understand he's quite happy with the serial keys in MFM2 and is looking to adopt it as his mechanism for the future. And you're right. One of the reasons I really love U-He software is the friendly copy protection.

Thanks bmrzycki, I have been browsing the forum since my original post, and like what I see.

Some things I have taken for granted with Blue, such as Copy and Paste + Save and Load of many parrameters (Sequencer steps, Osc setting etc) will be missed though.

If replies here reflect what I think is the case, I will be a new Z2 owner before nightfall

He uses his own copy protection scheme which he is very pleased with and it is as i understand it very effective.

I would be very surprised if he changed that any time soon or ever for that matter. He must have invested a lot of time in it and it's very efficient. Why change ?

Well, there's no way to copy and paste, but you can easily save osc presets.

And yes, Zebra copy protection is just great.

Check out the randomizer scripts mentioned in the forum. They are very effective!

Please check it, mr. Subz, if you can. I'm at work, so I can't check it myself now, but I'm under a strong impression that it's possible.

Another Zebra customer.... Just purchased Zebra-2, (Urs's support in this forum is astounding)

Hopefully, it will not take too long to make Zebra be Blue

I'm confused. What's wrong with syncrosoft? They clearly said there would be no dongle. It seems to me you're just looking for an excuse to buy another VSTi. You don't really need one other than the fact that Zebra 2 is a great synth, one of my favorites. Frankly I think it's better than Blue and that's good enough for me. If Urs decided to use Syncrosoft I'd still be up for Zebra 3.

I hear a lot of anti Syncrosoft posts... but I've never had an issue with it... and I never hear a good reason why people don't like it. It's a slight pain in the ass when it needs the dongle, but come on. If it helps the developer to make a profit then why not?

I've got a bunch of instruments that use iLok and Syncrosoft and if in the future they all used one of these then so be it. I kind of like it better than the NI or IK Multimedia approach... though those work too.
