You can play and try to guess all those tracks names (answers are in the video file info):

http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=yJQRQoiCIDU

all the guitars and bass are Dark Lady.
The midis have almost no extra editing except channels numbers and some mutings (mod wheel).
I hope you like it.

;)
Wow!
I'm sold on this now!
So we can expect this next year then?
I'm really looking forward to the bass portion of this.

Indeed.

do you still need samples, Mokafix?
..what goes around comes around..

i believe mokafix recently reported being currently busy with other priorities atm and expressing interest in completing the project.

Hi guys.

I'm currently finishing my studies...
Dark Lady is still my main project, but I won't do it alone.
The plugin even did a huge step forward soundwise a few weeks ago.
After some blind tests on musicians, I can tell it is now impossible to make the difference with real bass/guitar samples on a one shot sample (until now it was quite obvious, especially for guitars like the telecaster).

to Ouroboros:
I don't need more samples for now, thanks for asking.
I already had some great ones from you guys, and they were really helpful.

I won't post any more mp3 or vid here from now on. Next time you see vids or hear mp3's, it will be to anounce the release, which is not to soon, but it sure will come.

;-)

cheers,

Efflam

is this abbandoned !?

Efflam is still around, and he is working for Devine Machine now. H was waiting to release this until he had a dev so he didn't have to rely on some limitations in SynthEdit.

The E-Piano VSTi that Devine Machine released recently was a result of his work, so I would say that at some point, the guitar/bass stuff will be released. I don't know any details or dates or anything, or if they are even in the works yet. It's just a guess.

It will be worth the wait, I'm pretty sure about that.

you'll excuse me posting here, though ftr i develop for public benefit not for profit, it you're waiting for dark lady you may wish to try pling3b.

both use orthagonally coupled waveguides (which sounds more acoustic than the 1-d karplus-strong waveguide) pling3b has inline tuned dispersion filtering. what it lacks is mokafix's knowledge of bass guitar tonality. the architecture isn't identical (i attempted to assist with dark lady ~2006) but pling3b should be capable of 90% of the tone, if patched for it.

i think it has 2? voices of poly so you're able to use it for bass guitar parts without paying for a license.

if you wish to attempt a more acoustic ound, try the acoustic body resonator after it (and null the onboard resonators).

Xoxos, can pling3 do realistic slides? By that I mean slides where you run across the neck and whereby the frets impart a bump in the sound as the fingers slide across them which is what gives a slide it's realistic sound.

If it can't do this then as far as I'm concerned it's not really a guitar, it might be a string simulation but it's not a guitar as myself would know it. I used to play bass for years back in high school. It is going to be hard to please me in this department.

But I think Efflam/Devine Machine will achieve this - please someone who has actually played a bass for 4 years. Yes, they will do it.

As far as I am aware Efflam is still working at it but not at the moment, at the moment I think they are working on some sort of beat slicer, going from their webpage, so it's not in their front view right now, but I think they'll start on it, when that happens is anyone's guess and nobody knows what happens.

I guess I could try to condition my fingers to play guitar, but so far I have failed. Can play bass no problem, big strings and wide neck, not as much margin for error. My fingers are very, very, very strong...

Someone once said that if you can play guitar you can play bass and vice versa. I just can't stress enough how much of a dickhead that person is. They really have NO idea what they are talking about. Playing a bass is NOT the same thing as playing a guitar. Playing a guitar requires a little more finesse than a bass, especially on necks that aren't so wide. Trust me on this.

I can say one thing here, the idea of me playing a guitar with the joints in my hands being so seriously f**ked up by years of boxing is something of a dreamworld fantasy.

This is REALLY why I am waiting for this thing to be released...

well, yes. you're right. there's a million details in a real string that this physical model omits.

sorry, i've only played upright since 1980.

therefore it is complete crap and i should just indicate that in the thread instead of trying to pass it off as some kind of useful sound producing utility.

some bass in here. i don't know how realistic it is to you.

raise some serious questions, create some serious doubt. xoxos doesn't pay attention to the things that matter, the things that real musicians want in real plugins. only phony musicians fall for this.

that's how to talk crap :) no, this is not a real plugin, and it cannot be used to produce enjoyable emulations, because i am not a real person like efflam. i don't really care if plugins sound real, and your insightful questioning revealed that.

tell you what, you want to do a fret slide effect? how many are you doing in your song? why not automate some damping and gain modulation. a real programmer would know to try that.

Whoa, not so fast Xoxos. I wasn't intending to insult anyone. And you're right, with the damping and gain modulation it would be possible to get a slide fretting effect. I am not much into MIDI CC programming so I wouldn't know how to achieve this, I am pretty dumb when it comes to complex MIDI programming. I am sure you could demonstrate this in a demo mp3, but I am not too smart when it comes to physical modelling. I am primarily a musician, and not a programmer, so please forgive me if it appears that I went hard on you.

I tried Pling3 and it sounds great, I can create some beautifully strange string sounds that I've never heard before. I can pull off some pretty nice acoustic guitar playing with the acoustic resonator. It sounds good to me.

It would sound great for things like a fingered double bass. I played with the damping and the sound changed just like it does on the real thing.

Oh, and your bowed string is phenomenal if used with the right impulses (the body resonance impulses of a real violin/viola/cello/bass). It happens that I have some pizzicato samples from EWQLSO Silver that I used part thereof as impulses in a convolution reverb effect). After I did this, I honestly believe I will not need to bother with the upcoming Garritan's Orchestral Strings. Those bowed strings sound so damn real it's not funny.

Sorry for the earlier misunderstanding.

Wait patiently. These things take time. Meanwhile if your hands/fingers are in tip-top condition you could consider buying a real axe and learning to play one. I can't really play a guitar, because my hands are so awkward. Most people can pick it up, it's really not that hard.

Carrying a heavy bag of expectations only makes things a whole lot worse when your back breaks from that heavy load. The Lords will speak from the clouds one day and perhaps the mighty hand will pull us up into heaven. Until that happens...well, I guess I'll keep on keeping on. I'll keep waiting for the almighty grandfather clock to ring it's big bells, and it keeps ticking as we speak. Just think to yourself "Where will I be?" and just wait for the time to come. I know it's not easy, but nothing is. We all have to play the waiting game.

Wait and see.
