Hi Everyone,
If you get a chance, take a look at Stillwell Audio's Olga. The author's have put a lot of work on the Concept/Gui - pushing this as a soviet-era analog synth. In fact, the default graphics seem to be a weird hybrid of Cyrillic and Klingon (!). If you find the secret button (above the Mod wheel), you get English overlays for the controls.
As far as virtual analogs go, Olga has a very interesting character to its sound that is quite different from other VAs. From what I can see, there is some form of distortion/saturation built into the filter and amplifier which gives it it's distinctive character. Olga doesn't have many modulation options, but the ones that it has add well to this unique character.
Olga installs on Receptor easily as an unsupported plugin. I would first recommend running the installer on a PC first (to extract the dll and manual), then simply move the .dll to the unsupported folder, and install from the system tab on Receptor. The demo has no restrictions (other than a nag screen up front). It is well optimized on a Receptor, and doesn't push the CPU meter very high.
On the Stillwell home page, listen to the "Anthem" MP3 (Russian anthem) to get a good idea of what the sound-character is like.
Regards,
Kevin L

Hi there,
Agreed, its quite a nice synth, nice character. I've tried to install it on my Receptor (V1.6) however without any luck. The version I downloaded straight from the site is v1.01.02 - as soon as I hit the "install 1 file" button from the GUI, reboot-arama. Drops a Failed message, but no reference to Olga in the system reports..

I double-checked my versions. I have Receptor OS 1.6.2007.0618 (probably is the same version as yours. I believe I have the same version of Olga as you too.
Did you look on your instruments list to see if it installed (even if you recieved a 'failed message - sometimes this happens)?
Also, I did not need to add any windows .dlls to get this to work, however it is possible that I did add a .dll to get some other plug to work long ago, that happens to be something Olga needed too. Usually, the system-log will tell you if a plugin tries to load a .dll that is not present. You might also be able to figure out what .dlls are required on a windows computer with some dependency tools (I don't know of a specific one, but I have used some free ones I found on the net previously).
In any case, Olga continues to work without a hitch for me.

Kevin L
