Hi!
I bought a Receptor not long ago for gigging purposes and I'm now looking for a sturdy flight case to lug it around in..
I'm not planning to have anything in the case other than the Receptor + cables, so a 2U space is all I'll need. I'm looking for a case that is strong enough to survive being handled by impatient roadies and also offers good ventilation (some form of ventilation on the sides as well as the front and back)
The only major manufacturer that has distributors in my area is SKB, so it's got to be either one of their products or a custom-build.
any suggestions?

DOnt know if Id trust roadies, unless u buy them dinner....a lot...
I piked up a Gator case, 4u, as I threw in a stereo 31 band eq to help me w/Ivory..Actually, the 1st time I took out the Rec setup was this week on gigs where they didnt have an accoustic....I was having a lot of trouble choosing a cab, rack...getting a good sound for Ivory..I moded 4 different piano's 3 Stnways and an IG..thursday w/a quintet was the real test, I must say that it played and sounded very nice..a surprise at how playable it was in a jazz setting..Im not going to use a DP sound ever again..for piano anyway...I used it last nite in a bit louder setting..still came thru well and very enjoyable.
Im not sure about vents, I think Muse told me that none were required since the last bump. I read somewhere on muse sight, I think Tom Jones pianist, something like that were talking about shock mounting and bracing the back of it due to its weight, so I'd read thru some of those. Mines on the bottem as the eq is very light and doesnt run hot at all..it sits there ok, but I did make sure to put some foam under the rear of the unit due to its weight...

Don't know if the Pro is any different, but I consider the rack mount screws too small to be reliable for serious road travel; I'd invest in a rear rail as well to support the entire unit, or something to support the rear so it is not stressing the front rack hardware. Other than that, it appears to handle 'normal' local road well, but flight cases fro anything heavier are a must.

well i had a nasty experience recently - i got to the gig, and the receptor wouldn't boot up. After a big panic, and my pathetic attempts to explain the problem to the crew in Spanish, I sorted it, but it was a scare.citizen020 wrote:the actual unit works perfectly every time
I took it apart and checked the internal connections, and it turned out that one of the usb ports was damaged. it now won't boot up when a keyboard is connected in that port, but the others are fine.
For a case, i just use a standard 2U flight case, with a couple of bits of foam shoved under and over the receptor to stop it bouncing up and down too much (have to be careful not to block the fans though). I definitely want to get a shockmount case when i've got a bit more cash, and maybe a 4U so I can put my control surface in as well. Not sure how I'd keep the receptor in place if I was doing that though.
By the way, if you get a 2U case, make sure the handles are recessed. Mine aren't and if you put it down on the handle side, it falls over.

Hi everyone!Hybernation wrote:I'm no expert but I have my RevC in a SKB (pretty cheap) rack (8 space unit I think). I have some other things in there with it, and left one rack space above the receptor for ventilation, locating it on the bottom.ADino wrote:I too would like to know what kind of rack cases you guys are using...I recently picked up a ProJr, want to start using it on my gigs,, but I agree about the rear support. Anyone using a fan on their case? I have an SKB for a Roland module seems to be ok..Ive also seen guys that drill holes in their cases for ventilation for their units....any suggestions?
Thx, A.
With revC and higher (pro and jr) you do NOT need a fan in the case....they run very cool (the original revA and B did not). I remove both the front and back panels on my SKB at the gig...plenty of ventilation and easy access to the back.
hope this helps,
John
My Receptor (revC) is in a Warwick 4U rockbag, together with a Motu 828mkII and a Behringer ADA8000.
I have both front and back panels removed when using all the gears, and after 3 hours (I played this weekend in a hall where the ambient temperature during the show was around 27°C and no ventilation), I can tell you that the Receptor gets quite HOT (even though it's RevC)!!!
Is that normal? Or should I worry about it?
Thanks in advance for any suggestion
Demierra
