That's the mystery.
East West Play, newer IK products, VB3 1.2, etc.
June will be an interesting month.

Yes. Direct Install is supposed to support the use of normal PC software installers. Install Kontakt 3 on your PC by running "Kontakt 3 Setup.exe" on your PC? You should be able to run that same installer on a Receptor with Direct Install.supersor wrote: Doesn't Direct Install mean that you should be able to install a vst on your receptor directly by running exe's, similar to the way you'd install them on your pc???
However, I am skeptical. Windows XP uses a database called the Windows Registry to store all types of data used by the Operating System, Hardware, and Application software. Music software installer programs write data to the Windows Registry. I am skeptical because I assume only parts of the Windows Registry have been cloned in the Receptor OS. I can envision situations where some software won't install or will not run correctly because of some weird Windows Registry entries.
Hopefully Direct Install will support the vast majority of music software products.

Now what precisely is it what we "be able to download... in a week or two"?[may 20]You thought we were kidding, didn't you? Okay, so we haven't delivered Direct Install quite as quickly as we hoped, but I'm pleased to share with you that we are in final testing and the results are very promising indeed. The initial release of Direct Install software will allow you to install Komplete 5 as well as pretty much any Native Instrument Kompakt, Kontakt, or Intakt-based sample library, which means hundreds of sample libraries will now be usable on Receptor... Please be patient with us, you should be able to download the new Direct Install update in a week or two. It will be worth the wait, we promise!
Given the following statement:
...I expect just un update in the beta testing cycle (just Komplete 5 and NI updates), with the announced "initial release of Direct Install" to follow much later, right?[may 22]We have started a beta testing cycle of Direct Install for Komplete 5 and updating Receptor installed Native Instruments plugins.

I think the big problem for Muse was NI and their use of the NI registration protocols... especially for Komplete I guess. I do hope that direct install addresses ALL install problems rather than NI (even though my biggest problem is with NI Battery 3). BTW, NI registration center or whatever is called is really a pain in the a$$... at least that's been my experiece so far, even when using it on my pc.[may 22]We have started a beta testing cycle of Direct Install for Komplete 5 and updating Receptor installed Native Instruments plugins.
Anyways, I think Muse realises that a direct install method is in the end a blessing for all... I mean that it will take the heat off having to constantly build installers for all new vts. Also, I'm sure that at this point in the game some competition will arise, so the one that gives you access to more vst's with less headaches and more flexibility will win out.
But when it's all said and done it's up to step up and Muse to deliver. I know this is blasphemy for most Receptor users, lol, but I'd even consider some stripped down, bare bones Windows (or look-alike) rolling on Receptors just so I can be flexible and not have so many headaches with my vst's.... but that's just my take on it...

I believe Muse is saying the initial Direct Install release will support two items:mat123 wrote: ...I expect just un update in the beta testing cycle (just Komplete 5 and NI updates), with the announced "initial release of Direct Install" to follow much later, right?
1. Installation of Komplete 5
2. Installation of Native Instruments software updates (e.g. updating Pro-53 from version 3.04 to 3.05).
Those two items would cover alot of titles (e.g. NI powered libraries) and allow you to keep your NI software up to date on the Receptor.

Well, this wouldn't be of much use for anybody who did not spend 1000$ for Komplete 5...MartinHines wrote:I believe Muse is saying the initial Direct Install release will support two items:mat123 wrote: ...I expect just un update in the beta testing cycle (just Komplete 5 and NI updates), with the announced "initial release of Direct Install" to follow much later, right?

I own Komplete Classic which I cannot yet use on the receptor, furthermore I want to use the Kontakt II based Galaxy II piano collection. From the may20 announcement, I was quite optimistic... ("Install ... any ... Kontakt ... based sample library")

Muse news release:
"Muse Research's new Direct Install technology will let you install software using just the installation program that comes with the virtual instrument or effect itself, vastly expanding the range of software that you can run on the platform."
This doesn't sound like DI is meant for a specific soft, or manufacturer, but rather for all plugs.

OK, so it's here... and it seems it's just for Komplete 5... I hope this is only a test and the rest addresses all the plugs, individual NI plugs or non-NI. As I don't have complete, just Battery 3... I don't think I can do anything with this beta.
Muse release:
Here is a link to the Direct Install beta site, this will allow you to install Komplete 5 and update your Native Instrument plugins.
[That's not for public consumption yet]
It's important that you download and install the latest BETA version of the Receptor System sofware form the Direct Install Home page before proceeding with the
Komplete 5 install. Currently this version would be 1.7.20080514.
Once you have finished the process please complete the Direct Install Survey on the Direct Install home page. This information will help us improve the Receptor experience.
