AFAIK the cutting frequency is slightly higher than the boosting frequency. We have shelf filters working with this idea in Sonnox, Sonalksis and other EQs.No_Use wrote:I never quite got that "boosting and cutting in combination within the same frequency." (like pulltec style)
Could sb explain please?

Ah, my new nickname 'Boostie' again - is that due to that large 'Boost' knob in my new thingy?Optomadic wrote:Boostie I'm assuming this one will also use SSE processing?
And yes, SSE used of course.
There were one or two bug reports here related to BootEQ - please be so kind (in future) to report in the related thread or just give me a PM. I'm already dazed & confused by the summer heat here in my area at the moment
I already explained that 44.1 thing in the BootEQ thread, see here:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... &start=180
I always collect issues & bugs and then put that into a maintenance release if ever possible. E.g. the once mentioned Wavelab issues were already reported to SM since they were SM related in this case and meanwhile fixed - that will be contained then in such a release.
To the boost&cut question:
Such EQ designs achieves curves which have a kind of 'dip' before the boost action starts - looks basicly like this (in the case of bass boost):

or like this (in the case of HF boost):

The thing is that this sounds more natural or "musical" to our ears. It's somehow like when you have to enter a steep left curve by car: you first turn slightly right before all the way left ...
Be aware, there are lots of implementations out there which doesn't get this concept right at all, I've seen really scary things already. Always use an analyzer to see whats really happening.
peace!

basically, if you use it on, say a kick, you will clear all the rubbish around the fundamental freq. boost and cut 100hz or so, and hey presto! works amazingly on basslines too.
It's not what you use, it's how you use it...

It seems that the original boost/cut thing was because of the interaction of the passive components, probably somewhat different from digital implementations.
You can never know too much trivia.
