Hmmm...Had a snapshot bank with Colossus (5 instances), some plugins and all was well. EVE(1) had been a constant source of buggy irritation and so I added the EVE2 upgrade. Had VB3 1.1 installed and figured I would upgrade to 1.2. Things were fine for a while then every time I treid to load up the Snapshot it would crash and reset the Receptor (Rev C 2Gb RAM). I thought it was Colossus at first but after running a few test snapshots I realized that it was VB3.
The System Log yields the following:
/c/Program Files/VST Plugins/Unsupported Plugins/VB3_1.2/VB3.dll' reports unsupported version 2400; using 2300
rm-host: err:seh:setup_exception stack overflow 4 bytes in thread 0009 eip 420287ac esp 00e00ffc stack 0xe00000-0xf00000
So I uninstalled VB3, downloaded a fresh copy from Soundfonts.it, installed it a received an installation error for VB3.dll. This previously loaded OK but the VB3fx.dll failed. Now both have failed upon installation.
Any ideas? This is putting a crimp in my programming for a gig this Friday. I am working for a contractor who has been giving me grief about the Receptor load times which is why I was converting to snapshots. Showing up without the Receptor will be a humiliating defeat!

Hi C3boy,
I also have rebooting problems with VB3...
My main snapshot bank does not start up anymore after install.
I installed VB3 by moving the files in the unsupported directory of the Receptor. Then I tried starting up VB3 in one slot (channel) of my bank. This works ok. Problems arise when I save the VB3 program in my bank; the bank does not load anymore (it resets the receptor during loading). The same thing happens when I save the program as a single. When I try to load this single in any bank, the Receptor will reset.
I hope Muse and/or Soundfonts can find a solution.
Fedde
ps. When VB3 works, the sound is great!

Fedde,
I am relieved that this is a confirmed problem...it hosed a snapshot bank with a fair number of programming hours.
I was running ver. 1.1 in the snapshot before changing it out for 1.2 It was working OK. With no solution in sight I think I will reload 1.1.
Thanks for the validation...

I did out Ver 1.1 back on the Receptor and it seems to work OK in snapshots...
no crashes for a couple of weeks.

Thing is, 1.2 is significantly better than 1.1 IMO, it sounds as good as the new Diversi stuff being lorded by Joey DeFrancesco also IMO. I'd love to get a Midi mapper vst on it for my XK3,

My VB3 crashes (or locks up on exit, same difference) even running as the only plug. I had to go back to B4ii... There appears to be an issue with it and Receptor.

Hi All,
I don't have a Receptor, never used one and I don't know how it works, so unfortunately I can't help you finding a fix to this problem, but someone told me that the current Receptor OS has some issues with VST 2.4 plugins (VB3 1.1 was still compiled in Synthedit, which creates VST 2.3 plugin; VB3 1.2 is compiled using Steinberg's VST SDK 2.4).
I tried to contact Muse Research a while back for other matters, but they don't seem to be any responsive... and the only contact I had with one of their team ended in an unresponded email message.
When I will happen to put my hands on a Receptor, I'll try to figure out what's wrong with VB3, if VB3 is the cause. Same thing for the XK-3... I could make it compatible with VB3 if only I had a unit to test...
I'm sorry, I always try to do my best, but my best is often very limited... and if I only could tell you what happened this evening, mmmh... let's forget about it...

Hi Guido,
Thank you for taking the time to write on this forum! Your explanation sounds plausible. The error message was: /c/Program Files/VST Plugins/Unsupported Plugins/VB3_1.2/VB3.dll' reports unsupported version 2400; using 2300
So it seems that the Receptor does not support VST 2.4 and then tries to run the plugin like it was a VST 2.3 plugin. But that causes some trouble. Do you know what the difference is between VST 2.3 and 2.4?
For us Receptor folks let's hope that the 1.7 OS supports VST 2.4!
C3boy: can you use VB3 1.2 without problems (and with snapshots) under 1.7?

the problem is in how Receptor manages VB3 presets, rather than vst 2.3 or 2.4 as the plugin runs fine if manually instantiated.
VB3 has its own presets and loads the default one on the .dat file, or reads one amongst those saved in intself. If this is manually managed we have no problems, meanwhile Receptor needs to load those saved as Receptor presets in Singles or Multis or Snapshots.
Sure that VB3 preset/configuration when saved on Receptor as PLUGIN PRESET are normally loaded and recalled without any problem. rather than VB3 is newly instantiated on to the channel slot, full or empty, this crashes the machine.
Paolo.
