Bundle price for Sampletron and Squids Tron V1 Collection ?

Greeting Squids,

I am a little confused as to whether the squids tron v1 is a subset of the sampletron collection. The online audio demos show the same 3 squids tron v1 snippets as part of the sampletron demo.

Which brings me to the next question. I am planning on purchasing the crossgrade for sampletron from esoundz. Does this purchase even justify buying the squids v1 tron collection also? And if so, what bundle price is available for a person that wants to buy both the sampletron crossgrade and the v1 collection (assuming there is some overlap in patches). My biggest fear is buying duplicate patches for the money.

Finally, the website says
Get 50 free additional exclusive patches if you buy SampleTron on esoundz.com
Are these extra sampletron patches? Or what kind are they? Thanks in advance for your reply.

I had the same questions last month. I just recently bought both after being assured by Allen with info from the chief that there would be no package deal or group buy combining the two. I'm still happy with both.

But the ultimate question is, are there any duplicate patches? I get the impression that some of the tron v1 samples are absorbed into the sampletron.
And I don't want to pay $330+ USD for duplicate patches. If you can clarify with a instrument listing, or if Squid could chime in, that would be wonderful.

It's difficult to compare the two directly because of the directory structure differences. Here is a comparison of the Optigan as an example because it's not split up into so many subdirectories.

In the attached report using BeyondCompare, SampleTron was on the left and SquidsTronV1 was on the right.

Squids has said that SampleTron contains the best of V1 + what was to be V2.

That said, he has also indicated that there will be a V2 and it will have some things that didn't make it into SampleTron.

He also said that a lot the overlaps from V1 have been reworked for the 2.5 engine so even though they are basically the same, the sound is different.

That's why I did a binary comparison. Note that some files have the same name but are internally different.

He also hinted that a V2 package with only new files would be available for people like me who already have V1 and SampleTron. I hope this comes to pass.

Thanks for all the feedback!!! :D Looks like from beergeek's response above, I only need to buy SampleTron since V1 is absorbed into SampleTron. I was afraid of buying duplicate sounds, and it looks like my paranoia paid off. It would be nice if this were actually posted as a disclaimer or something on the SampleTron product page.

There is actually quite a bit in SquidsTron V1 that is not in SampleTron. If you will note the Optigan comparison, you can see the differences, though most are of the preset variety and not so many of the core sounds. The Optigan comparison may not be representative of the full soundset. Sorry that I don't have time for a full comparison.

57 files identical

93 files unique to SquidsTron V1

So you see (from my UNOFFICIAL statistics) there are 93 sample sets in SquidsTron that are not in SampleTron. Hope this helps you to make a decision.

Okay, ZombyWoof. You have been more than a help. In looking at this post and the previous one you did, I can easily see now how buying SquidsTron is justifiable afterall. Even if you look at the number of unique samples in SquidsTron V1 and pay just a little over $1 for each one, this makes since now.

So in short, buying the SquidsTron V1 is also worth it.
