license replacement process

I've just purchased a receptor and I'm surprised and extremely disappointed to learn that i now have to rely on an ilok for my commercial plug-ins to work. this is meant to be a touring instrument and i'm uncomfortable with such a fragile point of failure for all my sounds on the road.
1) what is the process for replacing lost or stolen licenses
2) how have people idiot-proofed their own touring rigs?
thanks -

Either reverse the front usb and mount it inwards and have the ilok there or get an usb extension cable and run it from one of the back ports inside the case. Either way, if your receptor is stolen, at least then the thief will be happy getting all licenses to run the stolen goods at its full potentialfkrohnengold wrote:I've just purchased a receptor and I'm surprised and extremely disappointed to learn that i now have to rely on an ilok for my commercial plug-ins to work. this is meant to be a touring instrument and i'm uncomfortable with such a fragile point of failure for all my sounds on the road.

Both suggestions requires some hardware modification thou... I believe if you search this forum you'll find some thread about exactly this problem, and a solution (I think it was about the reversing the front usb port or just removing it and putting it inside the box, I'm not sure).

Is that true? I may have misunderstood what i read on ilok.com, but i'm pretty sure i read that if your ilok goes missing, they can't restore permanent licenses to you - only temporary ones if you pay for their zdt service.
Yes i did (from the zero downtime information):
This hardly seems "rugged, robust, and built for the rigors of the road."

==If your iLok is lost or stolen:
* In the case of lost or stolen iLoks, PACE can only provide temporary licenses. We cannot provide full replacement licenses. You must seek full replacement licenses from the software vendors themselves.
* We can only provide temporary licenses for those licenses known to us from your last synchronize with iLok.com. If you add new licenses via license cards and have not synchronized, temporary licenses cannot be provided for those new licenses.
* PACE cannot provide extensions to the temporary license periods. In order to avoid downtime, you must acquire replacement authorizations from the associated software vendors before the temporary licenses expire.

Which plugins do you want to run with iLok?
I run all my plugins on tour without iLok, and the thing is that you can install the non iLok version (if it runs on a pc without iLok ofcourse). This takes some tweeking time and fiddling around, but it works.
For the plugs that can't run without iLok, you'll always need it ofcourse. But that's the case with all the other alternatives as well (neko/laptop etc).
Putting the iLok inside the receptor case seems the best solution to me to prevent it from getting lost or stolen.

I use a couple of native instruments'es, and gforce minimonsta. i generally run them on a mac - no ilok - and i don't think they require ilok on a straight windows platform either. Receptor doesn't require ilok authorization for commercial software? i thought i read otherwise.
And i guess in misunderstood the previous poster when they suggested putting the ilok *inside* the case - so you can literally flip the usb port around and there's room in there for a dongle?

native instruments doesn't require ilok .. minimonsta does (arturia minimoog V runs without).
The dongle can be placed inside, plenty space there .. there was actually a picture of that on ebay from a guy selling his receptor!

ilok.com sells an issurance for damaged or lost ilok usb keys, this is the only way to count on license replacement.
For tours, most remove the Receptor cover, unscrew the front USB cable, get a couple to nylon tie strap mounts, like in this URL:
http://www.uline.com/Browse_Listing_335 ... code=WO362
Now just tie sraps to secure the key to the mount.
