I'm getting strange problems. First of all Reaper says it's using 1-3% cpu, yet the total cpu usage is around 40%. There was nothing apart from UVI loaded amd bypassing it made cpu usage go back to 0.

Second there were clicks and pops with 2 open at the same time and weird issues when I tried to make 2 tracks play seperate instruments from the same instance and eventually the 2nd track just stopped producing sound. That might have been my fault though since I've never tried to do that before.
It also takes about 15 seconds for the gui to open during which time it locks up reaper. Thats usually an automatic uninstall for me.
I think this could be really good but is currently unusable.

A dongle is not free, right ?
I can't do anything with it if i don't have a dongle, right ?
THanks for the info !
Well, they're calling it free, and they're calling it non-copy protected.
But it does load PACE drivers on your system, I guess for handling the protected library sets that you may purchase (which do require a dongle - Ilock).

As far as I care - By forcing you to load PACE on your system it IS copy protected, and therefore it is not FREE.

Why not load the damned PACE driver with the protected libraries instead, and make this really Free - Free from PACE for those who avoid it like the plague?

We'll take a look.

If I understand at all what is going on here, I'm thinking the soundbanks are ilok required.

That really crappy uvi player was that way. The player is "free" but ilok needed for the soundbanks.....

Post

That player is not crappy at all, the sounds are fine and the protection is invisible.
You can't always get what you waaaant...

UVI workstation also crashes MuLab from MuTools when I try to run the scanner on it. :( I get this: "UVIWorkstationVST.dll seems to cause a problem during plug scan. It will be ignored during the next scan." Just thought I'd add it to the crash list. This is on my PC...haven't tested it yet on my Mac until I understand what this pace thing is about. What is this PACE thing anyway and should I be concerned? Is it a Pro Tools Issue? I'm running 7.3 on my Mac.

Oops, almost installed this...

Mods, please change "copy protection- none" to "iLok drivers" in the database.
Really, that would be helpful.

I'd like to ask, very politely but seriously, in connection with a number of "free" plugins that have shown up lately, please specify in the database if they load iLok drivers or other crap onto your system. I almost loaded the free Flux plugins, for instance, as "copy protection- none" is how they're listed in the database.

It's dishonest for a company to list software copy protection as "none" when they know installation will load Pace drivers onto your computer.

I just really wanted to say thank you to all the programmers that are coming to this thread to make their product as good as they can. I appreciate the hard work and feel elated that quality and support is coming back to the plugsound name. This seems like a turning point for your company from the past couple of years and this new feeling of dedication is relieving.

I have already started tinkering with UVI workstation and from right off the bat with the loading time of the interface, i feel like this is a much more solid product. Despite what everyone says and complains on here about how software should be perfect before it comes out, the reality is that nothing is perfect. You guys are doing it right now, and despite the silence (which was frustrating) your actions speak loud and i am ready to forgive. Thank you.

On that note, with your ears open now to customers, I only have a couple of suggestions for UVI workstation that I know would certainly help my workflow.

First and foremost would be the ability to audition sounds (instruments) in the browser with one click or arrow key. It is much nicer that the window doesn't dissappear like it used to with Plugsound Pro, but just the ability to load it with one click would save time and be friendlier.

Now for Logic 8, not sure about other DAWS, when I go to automation mode, I can usually see all of the parameters for every plugin and the track settings (volume, pan). PlugsoundPro and the UVI Workstation are some of the only plugins that I know of that don't come up at all. I have to arbitrarily assign parameters to random midi controllers to get the job done and its easy to forget what is what and is not as intuitive. Is this something maybe an oversight and easily fixable?

And the ability to grab mute or solo in the mixer and drag down to instantiate for multiple voices would be nice. Lastly, this might just be on me on my laptop but when I was playing with the filter it didn't exactly seem that responsive, it would take a bit of time to catch up, and sometimes a bit unresponsive.

I know you guys are busy with all kinds of bugs, but these couple of fixes would really be beneficial. Thanks.

You can leave the browser open and select sounds with the up and down arrow... hit the return key to change the preset. :)

Latest UVI now installs under win xp64( I guess I needed latest PACE 64 bit driver though I have an i-lok and never bought anything yet that uses it--there is a Waves story-nevermind)HOWEVER-Standalone runs and under Phrazor runs fine but the VST does not show up in C4 Studio. FYI.

I don't know, VST version seems mostly stable here on my computer. I did get a crash in energyXT2 while holding down a note (playing one of the loop presets) and trying to switch presets. Also got an exception error upon loading it in TobyBear's minihost. Other than that it's working ok.

Peace 8)
