Assigning Volume to EW Orchestra/Kompakt in real time

Hello there,
I have been used to using Garritan Personel Orchestra and all the instruments' volumes are controlled in real time by the modulation wheel.
I find this extreemly useful.
Can any one tell me how to do this with EW's Orchestra in Kompakt on Receptor.
I know its something about assigning controllers etc but I've never really gone down that route and the 'right click move mod wheel' manouver doesn't work!!
Any help greatly appreciated!
best
Bob

Bob,
Look under options in the Kompakt Editor and you should see/select the option to:
Use Std. CC#7/CC#10 Volume & Pan: Sets Kompakt to recognize
the standard MIDI assignments for volume and pan controllers.
Let me know if it works.

Also you must select "Route CC to SOURCE plugin" from the Receptor SETUP window.

Hi Guys,
Yeah I did those two things but nothing so far.
The modulation wheel in Kompakt moves OK but no volume change.
Should I also see the volume control on the Kompakt player moving when I get this to work OK?
Any other ideas?
cheers

Hi Mortimer,
I redid it using R Remote but to no avail.
Here's my midi setup in Receptor/
Master transpose ...............................no transposition
Tempo source ...................................external midi
Receptor Program Changes........................Use bank Select (checked)
Use Channel.....................................None
Route all other channels to source plugin......(unchecked)
Route midi CC's to source plugin...............(checked)
Hope this helps!
Bob
PS Uniwire is not enabled as I'm going via midi but I have the network running for R Remote.

Here is the test I just ran.
1. Load a blank Receptor Multi.
2. Load EW Strings on Receptor mixer channel 1, midi set to 1. Load a single sample into EW Strings slot 1, it must be set to midi channel 1.
3. Send random notes and CC7 movement on midi channel 1.
Result: Receptor mixer channel 1 moves up and down, so does volume.
4. Open the the Receptor SETUP window and set "Route CC directly to source plugin". Verify EW Strings is set to "Use Std. CC#7/CC#10 Volume & Pan".
5. Run sequence again.
Result: The volume knob in EW Strings moves and so does sound.

Okay, maybe I'm missing something on this thread. But Bob said he wanted to use the modulation wheel to control volume. I'm assuming his mod wheel sends CC1, not CC7. This would explain why it moves the Kompakt mod wheel, but has no effect on volume. Is this correct, Bob?
Assuming this is the case, then setting Kompakt to respond to CC7 will not help. I don't think Kompakt can be configured to control volume with CC1. However, if you have Kontakt, you should be able to load the samples and set Kontakt to assign volume to CC1.

East does allow to assign a number of parameters to CC1 (mod wheel) I need to re-check the user guide but I seem to remember it allows for cross fades between samples for example amoung other things. I need dig back through the user guide. News at 11.

Hi again,
I had to do some 'Music' Work. (funny how that gets in the way!!!!)
But I'm back on it I'll try Rick's idea see what happens.
okiikahuna I think your right that is what is happening.
EastWest does provide some samples that respond to the modulation wheel but you have to use that sample and it would be nice to be able to have the flexibilty the GPO provides...independant volume control on all 8 channels in one instance of the player on any sample ....and of course they use the Kontakt player..hmmmmm.
Anyway I'll let you know.
Thanks for all your input guys!

Ok....
I got a work round.
I did what Maxreverb suggested and it didn't work with the mod wheel but it DID WORK with the control slider on my CME 88 Keyboard.
I've just loaded up 8 seperate orchestral samples in to one instance of Kompakt ..midi channells 1 to 8.
Receptor is set to All and Thru.
Using the slider on my CME 88 (which is CC1) during record/playback, each instrument responds independantly to volume........woopeee!!
Thanks a bunch guys......now I can get back to what we are all supposed to be doing.....Composing!!

One other thing...
You Have to open a Blank patch from the multi window before you open an instance of Kompakt.
I tried without doing that and it doesn't work.
But as long as I open the balnk patch first.....no problemo...
Cheers again!!

OK so now I have it working with the MOD wheel, here's the steps.
Open to the edit view of EW Orch, click on "PITCH MOD", set MODWHEEL to -100% or 100%, and just below it should say "Vol". Now mod wheel moves vol. Save this as a SOURCE patch and BINGO, you are in the money. Also this mod wheel assign feature does some really neat stuff, dig in the EW manual, good stuff.

Wow. That is something I definitely did not know and didn't find in the EW manual. I'm very glad to be corrected on this. Thanks Maxverb!MaxReverb wrote:OK so now I have it working with the MOD wheel, here's the steps.
