Doesn't MIDI learn work for that? Just guessing, I don't have a mod wheel.
In any case, I believe many hosts would allow to map it externally, no?
I tried that hack just now, good idea. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a good control to map to modwheel to get the usual vibrato effect that you want 75% of the time. (And probably filter CF mod the rest of the time.) I tried mapping "Modulator B" on Osc 2 to mod wheel but the "off" position is in the center, so it's not much like a mod wheel and is only working on one of the two oscillators anyway.

How do I modulate Osc 1's pitch by the way? I wish I could detune it too, so it would beat against the high frequency LFO like I'm making Osc 2 do in my patch. (Or I wish I could more accurately tune the audio rate LFO).

Even if you could get it to work, it sure is a lot of effort compared to just about every other VA that handles modwheel automatically. Sure it's a controller. The most common one too.

vurt wrote:maybe the lack of a modwheel IS a feature
or at least modwheel isnt a feature he wants to add, you may choose to add whatever features to your own synth and ad to his.

i dont know if it has a modwheel as ive never downloaded it. but aq you are coming across as a bit of a dick.
You have an opinion about something you've never tried and I'M a dick? You need to think about that some more vurt.
where did i state an opinion on the synth?
what i actually stated was a possible reason you couldnt find something.
i also didnt say you are a dick, you need to learn to read properly ;)
Oh and let aciddose use Fonzie's "I meant to do that" excuse himself. Wait for it... modwheels aren't good enough for him or something... I know it's coming...
maybe he just doesnt see the need for one on this particular synth, are all synths supposed to have the same feature set? you might need to think about that some more ...

just a quick observation here: just about everything aq says simply proves him more and more of an incompetent fool.

what was that quote again, from that man who was involved in the evolution of the laws in one well known country?

I'm not the one contradicting myself or making up flat out lies aciddose.

Here's a fun patch for yuz all: http://www.admiralquality.com/mp3/XHipE ... Warble.zip Would sure benefit from some modwheel action. :(

in truth i think you both need to stop antagonising each other.

well, i'l give the honest answer for the fifth (i guess?) time: press "map cc" and follow the instructions.

of course i don't believe he actually has a problem understanding this, it's just a ploy to allow him to argue that there is some "fundamental" feature missing. the truth is, i think implementations like his, or like a majority of the software out there are extremely flawed. first of all, "mod wheel", or cc #1 isnt always going to be one that you specifically want to use for "vibrato". the mod depth of whatever you might deem "vibrato" could be most useful in any range, or with any linear/nonlinear mapping applied. adding a "mod wheel -> modulator a depth to frequency root" mapping would be extremely limited and for a majority of cases absolutely useless.

such mappings, which place limitations on the number of possible configurations the synthesizer can be patched in, are the opposite of my design goals with xhip.

i've already explained which feature will solve all these issues, i won't explain it again.

(btw, aq's next comment is that this application of map cc isnt practical, and that xhip is therefore fundamentally flawed, unusable and useless to anyone with a magic polka-dot and pinstripe mod wheel.)

So which control does one map modwheel to for vibrato?

mike, honestly, are you an idiot or is this some kind of stupid act?

Well I don't think not finding something on this interface makes anyone an idiot.

Anyway, I give up, where is it? I can't find any way to modulate osc 1's pitch.

Oh wait, I found the Oscillators panel on the Main page, different than the Oscillators panel on the Oscillators page...

Well, I can map the mod wheel to that but again, there's the centering problem.

That's a real favour you're doing your users there by not "limiting" them.

In This Thread:

We learn exactly how much someone dislikes xhip's modwheel support. Somehow I think AcidDose and everyone else on the planet gets it by now, but of course the emphasis on just HOW much he dislikes it must be painfully stretched on.

I like both AQ's and AD's synths.

And I think they both have a right to dispute each other's points.

My impressions are, for xhip: Great CPU usage, great sound, horrible interface, poor patch recall, somewhat unintuitive.

For polyanna: Not-so-good CPU usage, great sound, pretty if somewhat overwhelming interface, reasonably intuitive.
A well-behaved signature.

Supersaws are so 1967  Thin single voiced saws are all the rage now. Get with the times :x

I still haven't wrapped my head around xhip, I find it intimidiating. But the presets are awesome. I like the pulse width, it really affects the sound a lot.
