Why does Mike think KVR is a "crack haven" and a bunch of "assholes" are protecting it?thecontrolcentre wrote:@Hovmod

Has it occurred to anyone that it might have been a publicity stunt? Perhaps he noticed an increase in sales when he started that infamous thread about hiding a virus in the code that would destroy the data of any user of a cracked version (which he had the balls to allude to yet again in this last rant), and decided to throw himself into the pit again to make a few extra bucks...

I've been wading through that thread and I haven't seen any evidence offered. He flew off the handle, then things degenerated as whyterabbyt got involved. Unfortunately for him, as long as Ben chooses to leave that thread up it will only hurt his business potential.thecontrolcentre wrote:You would have to ask him that ... how would I know?A.M. He apparently perceived the blank response to the "I received a disk of "free" software" question as a nod and a wink by Muse saying "well, now, we just don't think you need to worry yourself over that". Yes, that is a highly conspiracy oriented perception so he has received the most likely response that he could have. I won't fault him for that since it could at least appear suspicious.
I'll be interested to hear why KVR exists to promote cracks, though. I've seen example after example to the contrary. I think many developers, large and small, would agree that KVR is one of their greatest advertising assets.

KVR has all sorts of people. But you gotta figure, if you're gigging with a laptop or receptor, and you're halfway sane, then you've either paid or you use freeware.
The guy with 5 posts saying he uses Superwave Pro is iffy.

I think the Lithium comment was closer to nailing the underlying motivation for the situation.jplanet wrote:Has it occurred to anyone that it might have been a publicity stunt? ...

One thing I'll say about KVR and cracked software is that so many home studio owners come here for the latest (legitimate) free software. If anything, KVR is doing a lot to prevent circulation of cracked software since it is never discussed here but freeware is constantly promoted and new stuff is offered all the time. I think with all the free software found through KVR, many people don't resort to cracks when otherwise they might have because of budget limitations.

I think even TCC would agree that accusing KVR of being a crack haven is

The locked thread has highlighted one of the features of the internet i.e. too many people don't take time to think about what they're writing. If AQ had taken time to review what he wanted to say in the first place, he would have contacted Muse to query the faq entry, Muse would have checked and realised there was a coding mistake, would have corrected the mistake, and none of this nonsense would have been aired on a public forum, with neither AQ nor its critics looking stupid as they do now.
In short, don't fly off the handle, read your text again and think about its potential impact before you press that send button !

Totally agree. With AQ behaving as he did, I don't think it's good for bussines. I for one wouldn't buy anything from him.Kermit Jagger wrote:The locked thread has highlighted one of the features of the internet i.e. too many people don't take time to think about what they're writing. I was trying to get him to do that and take a few steps back to think about the stupid things he was saying but unfortunately he wasn't in the mood. I hope he's had a chance to sleep it off or cool off now.Kermit Jagger wrote:The locked thread has highlighted one of the features of the internet i.e. too many people don't take time to think about what they're writing. I mean really saying your software contains a "logic bomb" is more likely to deter anyone from buying it or even trying the demo and could even lead some (also foolish) people into the arms of crackers purporting to have eliminated the code (if it's even there). It's happened before.
