Can anyone please enlighten me on when the new and reworked Sylenth 1 (VST version) will likely be made available to the current owners of the plugin?

It seems fairly obvious that the developer has elected to ignore this, the company forum, and so not keep us directly informed about progress and predicted rollout timescales.

Well I emailed Lennard last week and he replied saying that it would be about another 2 weeks for the release of the PC & Mac VST. Then another month for the Mac AU. The reply was only about 2 hours after I sent the email.

I replied to him saying thanks for the quick response and also that I would be willing to pay in advance if there was a possibility to be a beta tester, but I haven't gotten a reply to that email. I'm guessing it's a no for the beta tester seat. I really can't wait for this Mac release, I'm using Logic so I need the AU! :(

IMHO I think ALOT of other synths sound cheap compared to Sylenth, even hardware. I'm dying to use it as my main synth, and honestly I don't even feel like producing until I get it.

P.S. I'm selling my Nord & Virus:

I 100% agree with your opinion. At this moment I mostly use Sylenth1 and I don't know if i will sell my Virus TI since the new OS 2.7 is still in beta stage.

:) and the fact that it's a native software synth is unbelievable. You're lucky that you've already been able to run it, I'm just counting the unknown number of days... I've only tested the demo through parallels, but I can't really use it in my configuration like that. I can't wait till it's native for me and the rest of the Mac folk.

I do only use softsynths, because i can't afford to buy a synth, that costs 1600 Euro. But what I always wonder is why would one sell a virus ti?Doesn't it sound great?Isn't it easy to use?Maybe I am naive, because I lust for hardware, but what are the advantages of softsynths compared to hardware?I do really love my sylenth, but I would love to have a synth like the Prophet 08 or the Virus Ti(which I understand is different to others because of the Total Integration),especially because it is a different approach in programming sounds compared to fiddling with the mouse.I ask this question here, because you all say, that you are likely to sell your hardware soon.

Well I'm actually selling the Virus Classic not the TI, but yes it sounds great, and the synth it self is not more complicated than any other.

Software synths are more convenient. Here are a few reasons why:

1. All of your settings (even if you don't save an edited patch) are saved with your project automatically.
2. When you open your project again everything is exactly how your left it, there's no scrolling through patches on the synth or trying to get back to the one you were using.
3. In most software you don't need to record software synths like you do hardware before you bounce/export your project.
4. You can easily save/export your own presets that you have programmed yourself somewhere for backup like a CDR or external HD.
5. When you're programming software synths you get to see exactly where all of the settings really are. When you're using virtual analog hardware synths and you're on a certain patch, each of the settings for all of the knobs might not match up with where they really are physically.
6. With native software synths you can run as many instances of the synth as your CPU can handle. It's like having almost as many of them as you want.
7. Software synths don't break, there are bugs every now and then, but you don't have to worry about them breaking like hardware might. If a hardware synth breaks and it's discontinued it's hard to find a replacement. If your computer breaks and it's discontinued you can buy/build another one and install your software again.

Well if you're performing live, then personally I think hardware is the way to go, but if you're producing music then in my opinion software is the way to go. The Virus TI is great, however there are bugs with that model's integrated plugin as well as Access' Virus Powercore plugin and probably always will be for some people. I'm talking about bugs that prevent you from using it properly, not regular minor bugs here and there like on most native software. I use to have the Virus Powercore as well. Also the VIrus TI, and even the Virus Powercore go back to what I said in #7.

As far as 'fiddling with the mouse' to program... You can almost always use a midi controller to assign physical knobs to the knobs in the software if you still want the feel of hardware. It's the best of both worlds.

The reason why I decided to sell my 2 hardware synths is because of what I had just mentioned and I personally feel that Sylenth1 actually sounds BETTER than almost all synths (including hardware, even the Virus). If by chance it doesn't come out for Mac (knock on wood), there are still great synths that I feel compete just as well, such as NI's Massive, but I'm really hoping that Lennard is true on his word because I plan on using Sylenth as my main synth. It's the first software synth that has actually inspired me like hardware.

Thanks for the quick and long answer,I am no beginner but I never owned a hardware synth.I think I should save money for a Novation Remote, maybe this gives me the best of both worlds with the Sylenth and Zebra2.My Behringer Control BCR2000 is not quite intuitive,I found.

Hey, no problem at all :) Yes that would probably be a good move. I always say hey, it's the end result that matters. There has been a raging war between hardware and software, but in the end just by listening to your finished song, who can actually tell what you used?

Well,I know that the final result will sound great with my synths(if they are properly mixed),but I thought that playing around with hardware might be more fun and inspiring, even if the result might be the same soundwise.

Post

Yes, it is for some, but I just see it as extra steps that can be avoided with software, not to mention money saved. Actually it will probably money GAINED in my case since I will probably end up getting more than what I paid for the Virus and Nord.

I've got a gig tonight where I'm doing hybrid DJ and live synths, and my only two synths are Sylenth1 and Operator!

I understand your opinion. I did not say i sold my TI but at this moment i am thinking about it. There are two important reasons for this. First is that at the current stage (OS 2.7 public beta 4) the VIRUS TI IS STILL UNSTABLE both in the plugin and the standalone mode or if not the polyphony is limited somewhere to 8-10 with complex patches.
The second reason is that i have some softynths (not a complete list) which together stand up well against any hardware: Lennar Digital Sylenth1 v1.21, Admiral Quality Poly-Ana v1.12, Rob Papen Predator, NI Massive, NI Absynth 4, AAS Tassman 4, Gforce impOSCar, Steinberg/Waldorf PPG Wave 2.V.

I also have reasons why i still keep the TI: First i like the sound, secondly i wait for the final OS 2.7 (hopefully stable) and third it's one of the best wavetable synths. I alraedy owned some Waldorf stuff incuding the Q and a Microwave XT so i can say this. Good wavetable softsynths (in my opinion) are : NI Massive, PPG Wave 2.V, Korg Wavestation plugin, Thor (from Reason 4), Terratec Komplexer and Humanoid Sound Systems Scanned Synth Pro.

Don't worry, I'm still waiting patiently for the Mac version... after it's released I don't think I'll be on this site much anymore, but until then, it's what my days consist of. :)
