As you can see that's the way it's being used above.

I'm entirely a MIDIot and don't do much with recorded audio, so this is a big deal for me ;)")
So maybe eidenk's point still stands - if a lot of Reaper users aren't into MIDI and describe themselves as "midiots" then perhaps the Reaper user-base is not inclined toward working with MIDI.

[personally doesn't bother me either way - what I will be interested in is when Reaper has snap to zero crossings, which will make it a more useful audio recorder... can anyone confirm if this is yet added? :help: ]

indeed, i checked that assertion about midiots also...
- none of the cockos team members used it.
- couldn't find a post where it was used as "midiot(s) which means idiots who need midi to make music"

Post

No it doesn't - that's a different point and just shows they are asking other Reaper users (who they presumably think do know something about it) - also 57 out of thousands of posts is hardly indicative of anything.

Then we get a big update that improves my workflow even further.

Then i find out i have more actions to use, which improves the workflow even further.

Then i spent a long night incorporating the new actions i chose to use, and that improved the workflow even further.

Then i find the new actions replace three macros, so i'm now 3 more keystrokes in front, improving the workflow further.

Then i discover the new scrub feature, which is more accurate and consistent than either my old grundig autosync reel to reel, or the fairlight, can be mapped to my supersmooth mod wheel, improving the workflow further.

Then i discover more actions for the midi editor, improving my workflow even further.

I finally dumped the wretched mouse a week ago, and with a tablet, qwerty, and midi keyboard, get twice as much done as before.

Great update, and as one who's practised using keystrokes, even more great components to add to the toolbox.

Looking foward to getting this album finished even quicker, and going onto the next one.

And that's what it's all about for me. More time writing music, quickly and effectively, and less time tinkering under the hood.

Reaper works, and just got a lot better. I'm looking forward to the Reaper midi development that will come inevitably, as i'm sure it will be as good as the superb audio tools, but the midi is quite usuable now, and with some effort on the part of the user, with developing and managing a good workflow, has much that isn't always readily apparent.

No crashes, no glitches, no timing issues.

My thanks to the Reaper team for making my work even more efficient...

This is a most enjoyable journey.....

Alex.

Oh, i almost forgot.
I'm doing this in Reaper, in Wine, in Linux, which speaks volumes for the decent construction of the app as well.

Hard to find something wrong here, imho.
Good for you(I mean that!). But I don't think anyone is saying that Reaper isn't capable or even a good app.

Hello I had a question about Reaper today ...
It was about the precise terms of the license ...
"Non-commercial use" as defined here, refers to the use of this software for the production of your own content, not for the purpose of making money.
.
For me it is just about professional studios or wannabe ...
But the terms are not clear , as I can edit content for myself sell it by myself , or being distributed by some studios .
In any of those cases I will make money , so is it still considered as a non commercial use , considering the prerequisites are the destination of the content must be me ...
:?:
Thanks !
Will not use reaper but trying to clarify things up !

If the user is making $ with Reaper, he/she has to buy the commercial license.

The way I understand it (but maybe I'm wrong) is: if you make money as recording engineer/arranger/producer for someone else than yourself and use Reaper for this, then you need a commercial license.

I don't suppose individual musicians who write, record, arrange and produce their own music are required to buy a commercial license, even if they do (try and) sell the result afterwards. At least that's the way I understand it. Not that I hope to make money anytime soon :D

Post

The point is do what you think is right. If you are just making the odd buck off a few mp3s then it's probably not enough to justify it. If you are making enough to afford the license then you should - the point is the onus is on you. This is an adult licensing agreement - there are no threats - use your judgement and sense of integrity.

See what justin says :
If you produce a CD with REAPER with the noncommercial license, and intend to sell it for profit, you should buy a commercial license.
However if you're making a CD just to make it, you can buy a non-commercial license. and if you end up selling your CD, you should upgrade.. if there's a small gray area in between there, where you're selling the CD but it's still sooo small, then use your judgment (but from our point of view, if you're unsure, you should probably upgrade)..

I dont ask for much:
I like to record audio.
I like to use vst's and vsti's.
I like a piano roll to be able to program chords/beats/solos.
I like stability.
I like to create a lot of tracks with a lot of FX, all while using minimal cpu.
I like customizing my own gui.
I like an excellent support forum.

I  Reaper

Regardless to the ease of use or the GUI it is an other matter ...

Schwa uses midi to the best of my knowledge.
He made many nifty JS midi plugins before making Image...before joining the Cockos team.

and the term midiot means what you want. I rely heavily on midi... I am a midiot. I am idiotic for midi. you have read about midi somewhere... might have tried it once... yes you too are a midiot. It all depends on the context. I can see how that can be confusing. English is confusing.

I find it confusing the way people get so ruffled over this crud.
well... mildly confusing and quite amusing.

bored now.

REAPER sucks so bad that when SOS Magazine wanted to learn about MultiCPU optimization and issues they spoke to Justin Frankel

Maybe because of REAPER's performance here:

http://www.dawbench.com/dawbenchdsp-x-scaling.htm

Maybe it will progress the way people hope and be as crappy as other DAW's when it comes to CPU, but right now, if being at the top of the pack is "so far behind" I hope REAPER never catches up!
