Very substantial new Reaper version 2.4

Just for the record, almost anything that's build in to Reaper comes from requests and necessities of users.

The direction may be questionable to some people, but things get fixed instantly and new stuff is added ASAP, which may just not be today.

I went through this with audio scrubbing. Finally Justin implemented it, and he tried to accommodate the requests of myself and many other users while developing it in to what you now have with the 2.4 release.

Is this very different from how people request and get things in other DAWs ? The only DAW I ever requested stuff for was Protools (I'm in post production edit/mixing and music mixing), and I almost never got anything implemented there. They didn't get around to much post-oriented stuff.

With Reaper I see a much bigger chance of getting useful things done, if they haven't been already. I'd never use any other application for developing sound effects any longer for example.

People forget Justin has been spending most of his time since V2 porting REAPER to the Mac, so the fact we are now starting to get some big releases is probably due to that nearly being complete (I'm guessing here, but I notice there's a new Mac alpha version with every PC beta release now).

I agree with Tal, recruiting Schwa should prove a masterstroke for the midi side...it's only a matter of time.

Btw I've referred to myself in posts before as a midiot, being someone who only used V Drums and Kontakt, and hence a little midi challenged before. But I'm getting better...

Hell, I even made some midi requests! (intelligent note navigation/drag-from-bar selection etc)

ps Alex, I seem to remember Justin stating he'd look at Linux once the Mac port was finished ...

Maybe it will progress the way people hope and be as crappy as other DAW's when it comes to CPU, but right now, if being at the top of the pack is "so far behind" I hope REAPER never catches up!

I think that might be a tad drastic Brent. Before throwing in the towel they should download a little 3.3mb application and give it a whirl... it may get the creative coding juices flowing.

But, JCS is not a reference to Jesus Christ Superstar, but rather Justin, Christophe and Schwa.

God is quite a different entity.

I wasn't talking about JCS. I was just referring to how many people seem to defend Reaper by defending and praising Justin. He's a brilliant coder, no doubt. But by reading what some Reaper users say about him, you'd think they thought he was God. Sure, they don't actually think that. But it sure does seem that way to me(as in, once again, my OPINION).

Some of the other statements made, even in this very thread, just amaze me. It's one thing to like your host and be emotionally attached to it because it changed the way you work. But some people are defending Reaper when it's not even being attacked. It's like they feel they NEED to try and prove something. Like if they continue to repeat the mantra that Reaper kills everything else out there, that it will be true and then they can be at peace.

It's just silly to me, that's all. And all JUST an opinion which can be agreed or disagreed with. Makes no difference to me.

Who cares if I follow a program that I don't use? Might it be possible that in my writing for websites and magazines that I just might like to follow many different apps and areas? Does that bother you?

Also, you are mistaken about me not liking Reaper. Just because it doesn't do what I need and I don't prefer it doesn't mean I don't like it. It's a very capable app that is excellent for many, and I know that. I've recommended it to several people.

I just post my opinions, which I am entitled to do. And in this case, some statements struck me as quite silly. I mean, even you thought that Reaper could do everything a regular audio editor could. So I commented. Nothing more than an opinion.

But hey, you don't like me. I get it. And I respect that.

Well actually, it doesn't. I like seeing where Reaper is going. I do follow it, and some of it's users have a problem with that. If you look in this thread, I didn't even criticize Reaper.

I do follow a LOT of apps for various reasons. I do a lot of writing for a few different places and I try to improve my own knowledge of apps, techniques, etc. so I can have deeper understandings to share. I do product reviews and like to know what is out there as well. I take care of news items for a couple of sites. Plus, I do production on my own and my own needs are always changing as I venture into different areas. So in my spare time I keep up with things. Plain and simple.

Reaper doesn't bother me though.
