Anyone want to give me a quick crash course on using cue markers in Reaper? I am not seeing them in the right click menu.

Bevoss,

Hehe, i just looked at the top pic of project settings, and realised you're using 44100. I've just switched away from 48000, about two weeks ago, and haven't lost anything.

Another urban myth debunked, lol.

Alex.

p.s. Thanks for all the info, it's appreciated, and highly useful.

I'm going through the new features now, and trying to learn what they all do.

Thoroughly interesting stuff.

Alex.
:)

p.p.s. This one was a welcome addition....

"display of grid/snap sizes now supports 1/4T instead of 1/6 etc"

As a middle aged fart writing elevator music, i was struggling with the calculator!

:D

And back to our 2.4 update discussion...

Not to forget our other little treats:

1. Per-Item Automation...or Clip Automation in other dawspeak

That's really useful here, moreso to me than track automation because you can copy an item now complete with automation, and layer several duplicate takes with different automation styles, and cycle through them using 'T' for comparisons.

Only for volume/pan/mute at present, and volume obscures mute by default until you move it, but I'm sure that'll be fixed in due course.

2. Parameter Modulation--sidechain ANYTHING with anything! I'm not very good at this yet, but some of the boys are having a wild time with this...

3. Item Locking...self explanatory, and nice to have.

4. Drag to render...as in Ctrl-Alt-drag an item to a sampler or desktop, and it will render automatically.

5. Ghost midi items

6. Nice Waveform preview in the Render dialogue

...and a whole bunch of new useful actions and tricks

Ahh, it's good times for Reaper users... :)

Hmm that seems a little one sided there
I think we can say this whole mess that happens everytime is part of a two way confrontation
It certainly isn't caused by just the Reaper users i'm afraid
I agree, NAS. When the new version of Samplitude came out, Samplitude lovers had fun in their Samplitude thread without folks who don't use Samplitude posting their feelings about Samplitude and crapping on the party.

Reaper threads generate an instant backlash.
Exactly - I've been pissed off about this for a while. It's some sort of new blood sport I think this knee jerk uncalled for response to legitimate Reaper threads.
I agree to an extent, but you know reaper isn't just coming out and I don't remember when Samplitude came out what the reactions were. But I have certainly had the same experience from non samp users too. In fact when trying to keep one samp thread on course (the one I'm talking about now was heading into the old sound engine arguments more than once) a non user brought up a review in CM. Simply trying to defend what the reviewer had to say and at the same time pointing out that reviews are often jaded I got attacked, accused of having a grudge against that member, then accused of having another secret agenda. (Ironically that same person is here stirring the pot)

How about in the past how many times FL users have had to put up with these kind of attacks as well? It really doesn't end there either, it's a part of atmosphere here. But I bet users of every host has experienced this, if you're secure in your choice it should be easy to shrug off those who need to attack because they're not secure in their choice.

I have not tried reaper, but I follow the threads and try to keep up with a lot of things because the winds change so often and can't say any of hosts will go in the direction I want and one day my answer might be to switch to reaper.
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Fairly useless, really, but nice anyway

Fair comment Hink, use whatever works best for you. We'll try and keep you up to date with Reaper's developments (if you can manage to wade through the trainwrecks that tend to develop). :)

Bevoss,

Hehe, i had a go at this with a bassoon solo. Completely insane result, but a lot of fun.
There's a lot going to have a great time with this one i think.

Heh, some users want to turn it off (optionally).

I like it though ...

Hehe, it was actually meant seriously with a *tad* bit of kidding around.

However, I did find my answer! It wasn't in the right click menu, but in the export and render dialogs. Basically, you create markers in your project(actually, I used a region), then check the box to "Write markers as cues" when you export/render.

And sure enough, Kontakt recognized the cues as loop points! That's fantastic!

I do use Adobe Audition, and even though Reaper would not replace that for me, if I can't get this to work in Audition, I may need to get Reaper for this feature. I need to do some more testing though.

So in other words, for Reaper users who don't know, the cues are very useful for sampling. You can create your sample loop points in Reaper and export them and Kontakt(maybe others, I haven't tried) will recognize them.

I do have one problem though. Using Reaper for this does have it's drawbacks in that it's all done form a multi-track environment and I had to import the already sampled audio file. But the exported file needed some more editing/steps to get it back to being sampler-ready. So I don't know if the trade off is worth it yet or not. I've only done it once or twice so far.

Now I need to figure out how to loop a marker/region.

It's as simple for you chaps.
Simple 'grab' the triangle at the top of the cursor, and slide it back and forth as desired with the mouse, and the parameters are there to fine tune the response, including changing the action control, i.e., adding the ctl key to decide when you want scrub/jog to be active.

So mouseketeers and keystrokers alike get the benefit.

One slightly annoying (for me) change since the prerelease is that in the prerelease you could just drag and scrub with the mouse in realtime which was great - now however it does it all slowed down unless you also hold down ctrl which is a pain as I hate using modifier keys as I prefer to have a hand free to play my keyboard etc.

aMUSEd,
I'm still experimenting with this, but i think (not sure) that you can switch the option in preferences.

Options/Preferences/Playback "Scrub by Default (Hold control to toggle)" (A checkbox for on/off)

Is this what you're talking about?

Not looked there yet - I just want it to do what it did in the pre (which is pretty much how Tracktion does it)

yeah, uncheck 'limit scrub to 1.0x'

and try adjusting the sensitivity, dandruff cranked his up to 8.5 before he was happy:
