I hear that in version 2.5, Reaper will be capable of being used to make music, in addition to it's current capability as the subject of incredibly tedious bickering for people who have nothing better to do with their WEEKEND.
You people.
Honestly.
Good grief.

weekends suck...can't afford no gas, the wife is home all day, my daughter is home all day which means I have to wait to work on music, I can go out to the pool for a while but it's not really my scene and when the dew point gets too high I need to be exactly where I am...which just happens to be right next to my laptop
...but then again I'm not bickering

Weekends are my busiest days. Especially Sundays(church, jail, then work, no downtime).
Saturdays, I work ALL DAY LONG. But I work alone, and I'm in control of my own pace. I finished all my production early today. I'm bored, but somebody has to be here with 350 radio stations relying on me.
So to pass the time quickly, I'm bickering.

Reaper does video sound replacement, doesn't it? Well, it's got a video window, so there must be some point to it. I've never tried. Anyone?
A nice feature in the cue/markers implementation is that you can put the cues in an item up onto the timeline as markers. Now that's something some people who use an audio editing beginning with "A" have been wanting.

I think notation would require someone with pretty indepth knowledge in that area to program. I can't picture that coming in Reaper unless they buy in someone to do it, otherwise it would be not very time effective. That's where a small team has a downside - to be used to best effect and for the most rapid development, they need to do what they can do rapidly (if that isn't too circular!).
Which takes me back to Headquest's couple of comments about the Audition programming team, which serves as a good comparison. Certainly in the past, the numbers in the product team who were ever 'visible' was significantly more than two or three. And the visible ones were not the actual developers who are always hidden from view. It appears to be the traditional setup of analysts determining requirements, quality assurance people doing the testing and measuring the developers' product against the analysts' requirements, and then the developers themselves who don't interact outside the company as that's the job of the others. (It's possible they are outsourced anyway). Then there's managers, support people, sales people, documentation people, and someone no doubt to clean the office and empty the bins. However, as HQ says, their remit has clearly been broadened to cover other Adobe audio-related stuff, and what cutbacks there may have been since the Good Old Days I don't know.
Now Cockos, as far as we can see, simply consists of three people covering all those roles - though of course support tends to be the forum, documentation is handled wonderfully by Nicholas, etc etc.
My point being, that simply in the nature of things I don't see Reaper ever covering all bases, as there are too many bases to cover using the resources they have, and it doesn't appear to be the company style to go in the direction of bigger numbers, more defined roles, management layers, etc etc.
It is what it is - which is good for some, not good for others, and so it will always be. It's a mistake for both those that like it and those that don't to think that it is, or expect it ever to be, the most comprehensive and fully featured DAW out there. That's not what it's about.

Is that pattonfreak?fandango wrote:Who? Me? The thirteenth page of a Reaper thread? On KVR? ... what with my reputation??
BINGO!
Um, just so you know you just said "jail" right after "church" which, to someone like me who doesn't know you, has some painfully hilarious implications.koolkeys wrote:Weekends are my busiest days. Especially Sundays(church, jail, then work, no downtime).

in this case there is very little funny about it unfortunately, but I do think it speaks volumes about how Brent views respect and loyalty, it's quite admirable imo...but I do see your pointrunagate wrote:Is that pattonfreak?fandango wrote:Who? I think it is pretty obvious from the link i posted what your reasons are
You offered ideas to a dev in a particularly annoying way to that particular dev
He put you in your place about your attitude although he didnt write off your ideas and actually gave you a full reply concerning your ideas
You are now angry at said developer for being "Rude" to you as you put it and that is shining through clearer than sunlight
That was just the latest excuse. Koolkeys was derailing threads long before that. He consistently gets the thread focused on himself (see term: big ego) just as this one is once again.
Spending your time discussing Koolkeys is exactly what he wants to happen. That is the only conclusion one can come to when after so much time nearly every time he speaks up he subtly or directly turns the thread to focus on himself.
I suggest the ignore option... then you do not have to read his posts and it is easier not to get sucked in.

No, Reaper's MIDI is rudimentary.I dont consider it "usable".And I'm quite aware that Reaper has only been around for two years, but that hasnt stopped them fromTallisman wrote: Reaper does not have the Midi feature set of many other host out there but it is usable. And while midi is usable, it's audio capabilities kill those of the other hosts I own and I own a lot.
adding to it's great audio capabilties. Repeatedly, with every update.
It's time to stop just dismissing the lack of MIDI progress by pointing out how great Reaper is at audio. They're two separate issues.Me and thousands of others cannot stop using other DAWs and go 100% Reaper ( which I'd love to do BTW)until the MIDI functionality is improved.
I'm far more pro than anti-Reaper. But it's time to stop glossing over what isnt there by going on and on about what is there.
