LOL, you didn't, Runny. I'm glad my vocal mix passed your ear test, I was concerned. Also, it's my birthday on Monday and my peeps are filling me full of food, drinks, and other festivities for the weekend, so I will be intermittently here in the cafe over the weekend.

Alkie, Trent has made a large influence on my music, but hearing these vocals apart from the wonderful piano/bass arrangement Poly has going makes them seem a bit less Nin-ish. The combination of what Poly and I have definitely reminds me of it a little though and I'm glad you liked it.

Rubika and bluedad, thanks for the listen and the positive feedback. It matters. My vocals really fit in the pocket. I hope to collab with him in this fashion again sometime.

Your voice just happens to sound a tad like The Reznor's.

Oddly, I don't know if you know that one of my hobbies is attempting to mimic other singers?.... well, it is, but I can imitate His Trentness pretty spot-on which I discovered when I acceded to the request to a duet at karoke of "Closer" with an Alaskan friend who didn't swear. I wasn't even trying hard, I guess we just have similar vocal cords or something. She fell on the floor when I sang the chorus directly at her. Weird girl. She also fell down the time I managed to sing "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)" in the 8th octave once. Ah, biker bar karoke in Alaska. Only place I ever saw a midi sax being played live in my life. Had a couple rackmount analog synths. In the woods... weird.

Stunner! Absolutely a brilliant stunner!

thanks, jobro! :)

Post

Very restful, sort of hypnotic without being 'twee'.
It wasn't me! (well, actually, it probably was) - apparently no longer an 'elderly', now a 'senior'! Is that promotion?

Post

Thanks, folderol, glad you found it restful. :D

p.s. what does 'twee' mean? :?:

Post

it's hard to explain. affectedly dainty or cutesy. obsessively concerned with insignificance. when morrisey lapses into self-parody, he's twee. university students with ken barlow/custard cream obsessions who wear jumpers with sleeves 6 inches too long and call each other "bobo" are twee. they live life in the style of a pastiche of an alan bennett monologue inhabited by emo philips without the observation or wit.

"how many belle & sebastian fans does it take to change a lightbulb?"

"twee"

Post

LOL, I've got my birthday buzz on early tonight and I have now been fully schooled on the meaning of 'twee'.
How did this post go 2 pages with me misspelling Poly's name in the post title without me knowing it?
...oh yeah, the birthday buzz.
Corrected. Sorry Poly.

Post

I didn't notice either. We just see the "Poly" and know to listen, verdad?

Now I wonder how you spelt it.

@clueless: you made my life tangibly worse with your post
course, it ain't your fault but I think that description wounded me somewhere inside

No worries - I knew you'd find it eventually! :)

Thanks to everyone who's commented! Hats off to Jazzy for taking the track to a new level.

if runagate could glimpse the mental picture i had when i wrote that description he'd be pretty confident it was absolutely nothing to do with him. :hihi:

Mr J Spoon, i didn't find your lyrics cheesball. i liked their simplicity - far preferable to something clumsily pompous and overwrought, which seems all too common.

would you be up for doing some lyrics/vocals for me?

i've come to the realisation that i find it incredibly difficult to commit to a musical idea without something guiding me (i.e.lyrics/vocals). i end up going off in a million different directions, and arriving nowhere as a result.
