Evening ....

I was wondering, what are the chances of implementing a "save as" function per key combination or (even better) a dialogue asking whether you want to save a new file when you hit apple+s (or ctrl+s).

I've been testing and using Luna and MU.LAB for so long now and it's becoming cooler by the day but I can't for the life of me get used to the way you save files, I just can't... :helpl:

Strange : On OSX, Command + S = Save Session.

Doesn't that work?

Oh! Definitely! I'm just missing a key command for "save as" :D

Also, the first save is always a little cumbersome in my opinion.
When you're coming from a more traditional background, it's a very odd feeling to open a new file, do some stuff, hit "save", be asked if you want to save "new", then have to say "no", then get a dialogue saying "couldn't save session", then go to the file menu, then go to "save as", then save.

You'd expect to go it more along the lines of opening a new file, do some stuff, hit "save", get a dialogue asking you how the file should be named, and save under that name.

That said, I understand it's MU.LAB's architecture that makes this kind of stuff hard? I remember the issue came up in the Luna days.

I think a key command for "save as" would go a long way already.

Maybe it's just the wording of "Couldn't save session" message?

Maybe if it made it clearer that it was because the user chose not to supply a filename - "No filename given, session not saved" or something?

Hm, I think it runs deeper than that. The problem with first saving a file in MU.LAB is how long it takes you get there IMO - you'd normally just hit "save" and be prompted for a name in one go (if it's save #1). I don't know about a lot of folks here but it's something I keep struggling with.

edit: Second thoughts...

I think it's really mostly about the missing hotkey/key combination for "save as". It would make things much easier.

Or (possibly even better) we could have a window popping up each time you hit "save" going something like "overwrite existing / new file" . The window would appear every time you want to save, be it the first time or to back up.
