Inputs/Outputs, I'm confused

I'm thinking of getting a Muse Receptor. I currently have a Akai s5000 and now considering the Muse for our live shows.

I'm still a tech newbie and I'm just confused about spdif and adat.

What can I plug into the stereo and spdif inputs? I have a traditional asian zither with contact mics that I assume I can plug into the guitar input at the front, but can I also plug in an electric violin and another acoustic instrument with a mic in the stereo inputs at the back to take advantage of the plug-in effects? Is the spdif input reserved for a digital instruments?

I'm going to be using the Muse/Battery or Kontact to trigger custom drum samples via midi, but I want to see if the Muse can accommodate all our instruments' needs.

Also outputs: If I wish to have more separate outputs than the two stereo outputs can this be achieved by the ADAT? I assume then I would need a mixer that has a ADAT input?

Any clarification on this technology would be greatly appreciated and if anyone can suggest a website source where I can educate myself on this would be great.

Thanks,

Receptor has 3 inputs, Guitar, Line and SPDIF. Any two can be saved with a multi, all 3 cannot be used at the same time. The SPDIF requires a digital signal.

SPDIF FAQ: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S/PDIF

Outputs: You can connect an ADAT which would give you 8 stereo out.

For more specific information you can download the Receptor user guide from:

I thought the ADAT was 8 channel = 4 Stereo Ouputs.

DOH! Your right, I was wrong. ADAT is indeed 8 channel = 4 Stereo Ouputs.

Thank you for your replies.

Just one more question, so plug an ADAT connector to the Muse and then into a mixer that can accommodate ADAT? Does it have to have a particular input? Does it have to be a digital mixer?

Thank you,

About inputs:

Receptor has the front (mono) guitar input, and the rear (stereo) line input.

I created a plugin to allow you to use the left and right line inputs as independant mono inputs, giving you a total of 3 simultaneous mono inputs.

Here's the VST.

There's a readme file in the ZIP.

By the way, don't plug a mic or electric guitar in the rear inputs unless you use a pre amp or something similar to bring the signals up to line level.
