Actually that one thing, which right now is 50% of my sample survey, I did think 'must be British'. I don't remember if that was a British accent or the lack of negritude, or just that the music sounded like it was from place where it rains too much. here you sound like a regular Amerikaner ofay.

well, that's that cleared up...
i'm really uncomfortable with "that's where you were born so that's what you are", but i was born "here" so that's how i sound. i'm similarly and simultaneously uncomfortable with "just be yourself" and "be like someone else".

Lot of British people sound convincingly like American Negroes. Go figure. Average White Band, they're from one of those God-forsaken places. I'm southern and I sound it when I (try to) sing, there's no way around it.

I thought it was Scotland, but wasn't sure it wasn't Ireland.
I might have modified my speaking accent early on because some of my relatives sounded like such rednecks, my sister, I din't want to sound like that. What it was, was I listened to - identified with? - other voices than the immediately surrounding ones, people with real heavy accents maybe don't?
maybe is why jspoon sounds british on some things, by osmosis. I can sound real country on a vocal if I go for that twang though. And longer vowels singing, there's just no help for it, it's ahh, not aye, for I; awl, not all.
Mick Jagger tries awful hard to sound like some kind of american southern something, a negro I suppose, but it doesn't travel, to me.

I never got how he is supposed to be good, in any way shape or form. A handful of great songs, and Keith Richards produced the hell out of Aretha doing coupla 'em, but Stones just was never a buzz for me particularly, cause that guy don't sing.
