Thanks for your fast respons.

The "Ambient Pads" was read-only.

So that was the trick Tick :D

Everything is working fine now -

The Rhino Error dialog said: "Error opening file" and then the destination to the bank.

All the best
Bo

Ps: I really like Rhino very much.

Tim, I noticed you've also posted 2 rhino banks on Patch Arena. Are these previously unreleased banks ?!? :o :o :o

OH NO...these are the same ones. The news item said: "the two already famous Rhino banks".. I was going to submit them to the contest, but were disqualified due to being posted on another site ( yours of course) So I did another 1/2 bank so far of new sounds just for the contest, which we can release after its over.Hope this is OK. To be honest, It's kinda redundant since Rhino owners have to go to your site to get updates anyway.

On another note: Just tried the new additive menus. Its great! The only thing is that I went too far and whipped out the whole waveform :-) There was no option but to hit OK, and so I lost it. Perhaps with these new options there should be a cancel button. Looks like there is room for it.Another idea.or...is there a way around this?

Post

No env modulation on filter resonance yet? :-(

just kidding, I'll wait for it. 1.0.9 is great! Thanks!

Post

...the popup menu on the additive window is fantastic! Exactly what I'd hoped for! Thanks again!

back to playing now :-)

Indeed, 1.09 is superb so far...

It's already able to come up with very usable sounds, although it is recommended to spend some time to finetune them manually. My goal is not to make a perfect DX7 emulator, as there are very good ones out there.
Imports without problems. IF someone wants
a good site to get SYX files:

Yamaha DX7 Resource Centre

http://www.thedx7.co.uk/

They have 8 Original Rom Cartridge sounds, other banks and related software and links to other DX7 sites.
Hi all

Also my own DX7 page
http://tamw.atari-users/net/dx7.htm
How could I forget! :)
The importer works pretty good.Tic and I have been tweaking it. The only thing you have to watch are the long Envelopes decay rates coming from the DX sysex files, as Rhino freaks out if you do more then one note at a time.
There's an understatement! When I tried out the rom banks from the original DX7, it only took holding two notes for a few seconds before things choked up! Any hints
on how to reduce overload? (Besides reducing voices?)
As Tic said, you have to adjust and tweak the sound to taste. I might make a bank of my own DX7 sounds rhino-ized! 8) :) ( wish there was a rhino emotioncon)
I was applying your Algorythmics to other Rhino patches, and it occurred to me: What Rhino needs is a save/load function on the sequencer page. That would make it far less time consuming to take say Algo1 and apply the sequencer settings to the Alaska
patch.

8)

Reducing envelopes release times will definitely help.

Agreed. Consider it done for the next update.
However, if you do that with "Alaska".... ouch... you may as well rename the preset to "Instant Cpu Overload" :-)

Ah, damn. I forgot about this one.... On the other hand, that's more stuff for 1.10. This and the soundfont import maybe...

By the way... I forgot to mention it in the release notes, but the most avid preset tweakers out there have probably noticed the "duplicate sustain" right-click option in the envelope editors. It's quite useful when working on rhythmic loops...

Doh! Of course, thanks. (Clutch slipping during brain startup-must go for major tune up! Or get some sleep!)

Cool, I had a good idea for once! :D

As for Alaska, that was a rediculous example to prove a point!

ok i'm an idiot. i've clicked all over the place and the only place i find a DX7 import is grayed out on an individual preset.
it says 1.09. i have the banks available in banks.

what am i missing?

Post

nevermind, it appears my host got into an odd state. it wasn't loading any new banks and blah, blah, blah.

so now i get all the right click options in the bank list, sysex files import and I can set to listening

Post

ok now that it's working and i'm playing with Tim's old DX7/sysex files I'm getting an annoying click on key release on about every 4th preset.
examples from the SPACE.syx
key release on spacechrus, sunchild, shimmer

not every preset does this, but quite a few do.
any hope of addressing this or is this just something showing up on my system?
just as a point of reference it doesn't occur on fmheaven.

isn't that just the way. you do something to add a little value and people immediately start wanting more. it is a beta so i assume you might want bug reports.
