Receptor + iPhone 3G + VNC

I bought a new iPhone 3G and noticed a free VNC application for it. I thought it would be great to access my Receptor without needing to bring a laptop or monitor to view the screen, just in case. I am happy to report the VNC viewer for the iPhone works perfectly with Receptor! I wouldn't want to program in new patches with it, but a few teaks here and there would be no problem.
I connected my Receptor to a wireless router (which I will be installing inside my rackmount case). Then I just found the IP address of my Receptor from the router, used my iPhone WiFi to connect to said router. And start the connection. The port number you have to use in the VNC app is 5901. I e-mailed support for the password, I won't post it here since I'm not Muse wants it posted.

Wow!!!
This is *WAY* coooool!!!!!
Don't know why this hadn't occurred to me before.
How easy do you find it to try to change Mixer volumes or change Single/Multi patches?
If Receptor had a (Wishlist item) 'Set' view (like Apple's Main Stage does), this would be a nice little gadget to sit on top of controller keyboards with the ability to change songs, scenes, set lists, and patches. If you are like me, and often don't remember the Key of a song, relative tempo, or a hook that might start the song, all of this could be added as viewable Meta-Data to a song. I would find this kind of display much more useful for my live usage (rather than a mixer view).
Anyway - if you can bring a wireless router (or maybe there exists a small USB plug version of a router) with your iPhone, you have a cool wireless remote control fo0r Receptor!!!!

Kevin L

Its pretty easy to change things. The VNC client has two "modes". There is a toggle switch at the bottom on the to change between then. Mode 1 uses the touch screen to scroll over the entire desktop area. This works particularly well, and makes it easy to view the entire screen. Mode 2 uses the touch screen to control the mouse. Do you do have to toggle between the two while you are changing settings. But for a few quick "tweaks", I don't expect it to be an issue at all.
My main reason for doing this is I didn't want to have to bring a laptop with me if something goes wrong and I need to access the screen. I will just bring my phone, which I should have with me anyway.

Perhaps this would work as a good wireless router.
It can be powered from USB, and it is the size of a Post-It(tm) note.
Jack - Any chance you could give-us a snapshot of the iPhone running the VNC client with Receptor Remote running?

This is the bomb .. I just set it up .. after renewing the ip adresses on my wireless router .. it works like a charm.
For changing patches and sounds it's very do-able .. I don't want to edit a kontakt patch this way, but for most gigs it saves carrying around a laptop and/or monitor/keyboard combi.
Next step will be a x/y controller pgm change application with midi bridge to the receptor .. I've read about I3L (programmed in max/msp and using akaremote) .. this runs on the older iphones. This would require some sort of midi over lan probably, anyone a clue how to set it up. (Only Iphone 3G, Wlan and receptor .. where the Iphone will act as a midi controller).

The password is actually listed in this post:

the password for the vnc connection is, oddly, 'receptor' (it may or may not be capitalized).

I think so. The Mocha VNC Lite software client I am using says it works with the iPod touch.ahutnick wrote:would this work with an Ipod touch?

Does anyone know of one of these? A USB pendrive-size router that will work on Linux, and thus, hopefully, Receptor Rev. C?looneytunes wrote:Wow!!!

Haven't asked, but the site implies Windows only...PhilAiken wrote:
