Just in case anyone else is interested, the FREE ProteusVX from EMU does not work on Receptor:

I just tried to throw the VST .dll into the unsupported plugins folder, but I get the 'Failed' error.

Maybe someday...for now, it works on my PC :)

This is because they require you to have EMU or Creative hardware installed for it to work. I spoke to the guys at EMU about this (they no longer exist, sadly) and they were unwilling to remove any of the copy protection... so it is highly unlikely that the Proteus VX can be made to work... however, the entire Proteus sound library is in wide circulation in both SoundFont and other sample formats, so where there's a will, there's a way...

Great, first you're wrong about it being tied to hardware which it isn't then you follow up with recommending downloading copyrighted stuff of shady sites.

Way to go. You win teh prize.

Actually, the ProteusVX does not have copy protection:

"Proteus VX is not copy protected or card locked like other versions of our instrument and sampling software, and can be used either as a VSTi or in stand alone mode"

That's why I thought it might work...and maybe it should.

I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with your tag line, and I don't believe we've ever met. I'll address your ridiculous suggestion that I'm "recommending downloading copyrighted stuff of shady sites", though. If you knew me, you'd know that I do not EVER advocate stealing intellectual property, especially from my former employer (I was Director of Marketing at E-MU and worked there for 11 years before starting at Muse Research with Chris, Michael, Dan, and Egor). I'm one of those old fashioned people who still buys CDs, and I actually buy the software I use.

In fact, Tim S. who now distributes all the E-MU sounds with his company Digital Sound Factory is a good friend of mine, and in fact when writing my reply I was inferring people seek out guys like him and buy your sounds. Knowing Tim, they'll likely sound much better than the ProteusVX.

Obviously, I was wrong about ProteusVX still being copy protected, and that is certainly new to me because less than a year ago I was talking with my friends at E-MU about their software running on Receptor (before they shut E-MU down) and they said there was no way they would remove the copy protection from any of their software... and their requirement to use copy protection that was hardware based went all the way up to the CEO of Creative. Obviously, something has changed, but I'll stick to my guns that purchasing the SoundFont version of the Proteus library and running it in Kontakt (or even something like sfz) would be my preference.

That being said, I'll download ProteusVX and check it out to see if we can get it running.

I just played a while with it... cool stuff! Very very nice for a free plugin. I hope it will be possible to run it on the Receptor! (BTW: what about their new Emulator/Proteus stuff, does this run on the Receptor?)
